At its meeting this morning, the Vero Beach Utilities Commission plans to receive staff analysis of Finance Commission Chairman Peter Gorry’s 18 suggestions for reducing costs and optimizing the operations of Vero Electric.

Adopting a few of Gorry’s suggestions recently, the City Council was able to cut rates 4.2 percent effective June 1.  The Council also approved hiring a consultant to study way of optimizing the system.  That study is to include a report on the pros and cons of forming a utility authority.

Other significant savings could, Gorry said, be achieved by decommissioning the power plant and by renegotiating the existing wholesale power agreement between the City and the Orlando Utilities Commission.

The Utilities Commission will meet at 10 a.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall.

  1. Now, here’s a guy who knows how to crunch numbers. Who would you believe – Peter Gorry or Charlie Wilson or Glenn Heran? Now, that was not a hard question. I would put my money on Gorry. LOL
