COMMENTARY
MARK SCHUMANN

Not surprisingly, utility activist and candidate for Vero Beach City Council, Charlie Wilson, does not agree with my commentary on Indian River Shores Mayor Brian Barefoot’s guest editorial, which appeared in today’s Press Journal. (See: Shores mayor’s “guest column” short of fact, long on assertions)
Checking Inside Vero’s Facebook page this afternoon, I saw a notification of the following comment, which Wilson posted on his personal Facebook page.
In addition to describing me as a “small, pathetic, narcissist,” Wilson wrote, “The list of honorable people attacked by Mark Schumann grows ever larger. Seems like these fine men and successful business people forgot to ask Mark Schumann before taking the steps necessary to protect their constituents…”

Based on Wilson’s defense of the Shore’s lawsuit against Vero Beach, it seems reasonable to suggest that, if elected, this perennial candidate for practically every elective position in the county might rival Tracy Carroll and Pilar Turner in terms of the damage he will likely inflict on the community.
Following the link to Wilson’s comment took me to his Facebook page, where I was more than a little amused to see that he is using as his profile picture an image of himself at the dais in late 2009. For those who don’t remember, Wilson was elected to the City Council in November, 2009, and was removed from office just one month later by court order.
Who knows, Wilson may actually think of himself as one of the “honorable” people he believes I have “attacked.”

And what is he? I have heard he is very good at karaoke but have never heard him sing. Otherwise, he’s loud, obnoxious, and likes to squeeze through the loopholes of the law regarding residency….and he has confused some businesses about whether they should make their checks out to Indian River County Chamber of Commerce or Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce.
And to think that I took that picture and sent it to Charlie. He sure got his money’s worth out of that picture.
If elected Wilson will not represent the city of Vero, this is all too obvious. He probably is behind the law suit that will hurt all ratepayers, but the residents of the city the most. He should explain why his electricty was not in his name before the deadline. Based on this ,we don’t know if he can hold office if elected. Combine his bloated ego , past history, and self interest it all adds up to a poor choice for council.
