More questions about Wilson’s business licenses

Charlie Wilson wrote Inside Vero this claiming, “Media arts group is a dba, a sub of open permit inc.  I have just received in the mail my renewal notice in the city.”

Wilson indicated he would send a copy of his renewal notice to Inside Vero, but as of noon he has not done so. He has had time, though, to post another one of his attacks on Inside Vero on his Facebook page. Wilson once said on local radio, “If you cannot attack the message, attack the messenger.”

A spokesperson for the City of Vero Beach Planning Department confirmed the City has no record of an occupational license for the Media Arts Group, Inc., or for the Media Arts Group of Florida.  There is, the spokesperson said, an active occupational license for Open Permit Search dba Impact Fee Consultants, with Charlie Wilson as the contact, but there is no record – at the City or the County – of an occupational license for the Media Arts Group, or the Media Arts Group of Florida, either in its own name or as a DBA.

According to the city’s panning department, below is the business license renewal notice Wilson recently received.  There is no mention on the license of Wilson’s business, the Media Arts Group.  Unless Wilson has information not available to the County Tax Collector or the Vero Beach Planning Department, it would appear the candidate for City Council is operating at least one of his businesses without a current business license.

Acting president of the Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce, Charlie Wilson, recently announced he will again be seeking public office, this time vying seat on the Vero Beach City Council.  As a member of the new Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce, Wilson lists as his active business, The Media Arts Group, Inc.  However, Wilson’s business is currently registered with the State of Florida Division of Corporations as The Media Arts Group of Florida.

According the the latest information available on the Indian River County Property Appraiser’s website, Wilson’s business license for The Media Arts Group expired in 2009.  Records in the City of Vero Beach Planning Department show that Wilson had a business license for The Media Arts Group, but the name on the license was changed in March 2011 to Asset Research and Recovery.  That account is now inactive.

According the a spokesperson for the City’s planning department, Wilson also has a business license for a company called Open Permit Search DBA Impact Fee Consultants.

Below are screen shots taken from the Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce website and the Indian River County Tax Collector’s website, and the website for the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations.

If Wilson does have a valid business license with the city our the county, that information seems to be unavailable the City or the County.

  1. Confusing. Hazy, crazy, and lazy way of doing business. It shouldn’t be that difficult, should it, to have City and County up-to-the-minute records on file and available to the public? Too much mystery in this man’s life.

  2. So, Charlie is listed “Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations as Media Arts Group of Florida with a mailing address of a post office box. and an address of 2801 Flight Safety Drive but that makes no sense because he claims his business address as 2001 9th Ave suite 105B. He claims he lives at 2134 18th Ave. City planning has Charlie’s business is Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce (just an office at the 9th Ave address) So what if the city, county, and Divisions of corporations got together and put Charlie on the dime. I am afraid Charlie’s only defense would be “Please forgive me because there are too many places to file and I have NO BUSINESS trying to explain and I am a public figure and that’s why everybody is picking on me. And Mark Mulcher you’ve made yourself look ridiculous.

  3. It appears that Charlie Wilson has purposely chosen to make any information about himself and/or his “business” difficult to decipher. This is not a good trait for someone seeking to be elected. By my standards, I want someone asking for my vote to provide full disclosure in advance of an election.

Voters should be well informed in advance of any election. A good place for Charlie Wilson to start would be in identifying the mission of the organization “Media Arts Group.:
