Vero Beach City Clerk Tammy Vock today notified city council candidate, Charlie Wilson, documents he submitted July 25 do not provide sufficient proof of his having met the residency requirement to run in the Nov. election.

In an email sent to Wilson this afternoon Vock wrote,”The lease that you provided has a lease term of August 2013 through February 28, 2014, which is not sufficient proof of legal residency for continuous residency for one year immediately preceding the last day of the qualifying period, September 5, 2014.”

In a letter to Vock, which accompanied documents he submitted July 25, Wilson wrote, “…attached, please find, documents submitted to prove that as long as I continue to maintain residence at 2134 18th Ave. in Vero Beach that I have met the current residency requirement for City Council.”

Among the documents Wilson submitted was a six-month lease effective Aug. 20, 2013, copies of three rent payment receipts date Aug. 20, Aug. 28 and Sept 19, and a voter registration card.

Vock also pointed out to Wilson that the six-month lease he submitted included a provision requiring payment in full before Wilson could legally occupy the residence. Vock wrote, “…the lease requires at paragraph 5 that the rent be paid in full before you could occupy the premises and the payment receipts that you attached show that your last payment was not made until September 19, 2013.”

In July 25 his letter, Wilson informed Vock he was seeking to “head off any confusion.” Wilson wrote to Vock and submitted the documents one week after Inside Vero reported the utilities at 2134 18th Avenue were not placed in Wilson’s name until Sept. 19, the same day he made that last installment on his rent, which, at least according to the terms of his lease, was to be paid in full prior to occupancy.

The official qualifying period for the city council election begins Aug. 22 and ends Sept. 5.

  1. Thank you, Tammy Vock, for being a fantastic VB City Clerk! Has Charlie Wilson ever spent a whole year at the same address in Vero Beach? Does he merely attempt to meet residency requirements ONLY to run for City Council? To me this means he doesn’t care about the City and its residents–only about himself. Anyone running for office and hasn’t lived in place for at least 3 years probably doesn’t know much the community or county. Just my opinion.

  2. I agree that Charlie Wilson has had ample opportunity to reside within the city since his failed attempt years ago, yet instead of being a proud resident since, he’s tap-dancing paperwork and PO boxes from within the last 11 months.

Where’s your “Vero Pride”, Charlie? Why must thou manipulate the system to try and favor you when the facts prove you otherwise?

I’d have thought someone with sense would have planned for their future far better than this hodgepodge of garbage.

And yes, Charlie, I still have you blocked from contacting me on facebook.

  3. Based on Mr Wilson’s past ,long winded COVBTV appearances ,radio coomentaries and his writings ,we know Charlie Wilson very well His self-serving rants at council meetings, his total fabrications on the radio and his mutiple miscalulations on profits from the sale of Vero Electric ,we know him too well. The conclusion I come to is he is incapable of being a councilman with the best interest of COVB before his own self interest. I find him to be a poor example of what we need on our council.
