NEWS RELEASE
The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) has just unveiled a new version of its website, DiscoverELC.org. Using the latest technology, visitors to the site can quickly and easily assess information about all the ELC programs offered, in addition to current events including topics regarding the health of the Indian River Lagoon. Utilizing the latest WordPress software, the site is automatically reformatted for optimized viewing on computers, smart phones and tablets.
Many months in the making, the ELC team responsible for this effort consists of volunteer board members Doug Graybill, whose background is in information technology, Carl Miller, Chairman of the ELC’s Communication Committee, and Executive Director, Holly Dill. Graybill says, “The time and thought that went into the design phase has been wonderfully productive in terms of ease of use, broadened content, greater usability and attractiveness.” A second phase will incorporate easy online registration for programs and important tips on lifestyle changes that will improve the water quality of the Indian River Lagoon.
Natasha Walters, a former resident of Vero Beach who has supported the ELC for many years, contributed her creative expertise to the new DiscoverELC.org website. Artemis IT of Melbourne, FL, a specialist in the use of the WordPress web software platform, is responsible for the programming and hosting of the site.
The Environmental Learning Center is located north of Vero Beach, off County Road 510, at the western end of the Wabasso Bridge. Its 64-acre campus includes exhibit areas, native plant gardens, picnic facilities, gift shop, and a visitor center. ELC membership benefits, a list of its many field excursions, Ecology Adventures, including nature walks, canoe excursion and other boating adventures may be found at www.DiscoverELC.org. Admission to the ELC, a non-profit organization, is $5 per person; there is no charge for ELC members and children 12 and under. The first Saturday of every month is free-of-charge for all.
