Environmental Learning Center to host National Estuaries Day

NEWS RELEASE

ELC LogoPeople of all ages are invited to attend the Environmental Learning Center’s celebration of National Estuaries Day from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2014. There will be a full schedule of educational and engaging events recognizing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s designation of the Indian River Lagoon as an “estuary of national significance.” Admission and parking for this annual event are free.

Planned activities include canoe excursions, pond dip-netting, propagule potting, readings of storybooks, an educational session on dolphins, and touch tank encounters. ELC’s gift shop will be holding its 40% off annual sale and the entire 64-acre island campus will be open for exploration. This will be an ideal time for families with young children to share time in the outdoors.

The Environmental Learning Center is located north of Vero Beach off County Road 510 at the western end of the Wabasso Bridge. Its campus includes exhibit areas, native plant gardens, picnic facilities, gift shop, and a visitor center. ELC membership benefits, a list of its many field excursions, as well as information on the celebration of National Estuaries Day can be found at DiscoverELC.org, or by calling 772-589-5050 ext. 114.
