Is Scripps “push polling”

Online polls are inherently less reliable predictors of actual election results than are polls based on random samplings of likely voters.  Scripps talks online polling a step further toward unreliability by posting polls under their editorial endorsements.

Inside Vero’s online polls for the two Indian River County School Board races were just posted last night, and as of 11:45 a.m. already twice as many readers have participated in these polls than in the Scripps polls.  More importantly, the results are quite different. It would seem readers do not appreciate being told what to think and how to vote.

  1. I am surprised that the PJ endorsed Charles Searcy because he was one of the key persons in IRC to push to have the Oslo Boat ramp widened and it was made plain that to widen the boat ramp would be harmful to the Lagoon. So, as I said, with the PJ as “Lagoonie” as they are, why would they endorse someone who was out to harm the Lagoon? Just asking.

  2. I was surprised to receive so many large-card negative campaign mailings from Mr. Frost–or his money providing groups. If he approved of these mailings – and I presume he did – this gentleman would NEVER receive my vote. Hubby and I both voted today so it’s a moot issue with us now–the Primary is over. My feelings are that newspapers have a duty to publish the information on all candidates, as neutrally as possible…..but they have no business endorsing anyone.

  3. Cathy, As I posted elsewhere, I have lived in VB since 1937 and as long as the (Vero Beach) PRESS JOURNAL was owned and operated by the Shumann Family it NEVER endorsed any candidate. Oh for the good ole days!!
