NEWS RELEASE
On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., the School Board of Indian River County broke ground for the new J. A. Thompson Administrative Center on 57th Street just west of 64th Avenue. Phase 1 of construction is scheduled to begin toward the end of September. It is estimated that construction will take 10 to 12 months, with completion occurring sometime between July and September 2015.
The School District has leased the former hospital building that they now occupy from Indian River County since 1982. The building was built in 1950 and is in need of repairs too costly for a building that the school district does not own (repairs estimated at $4.324 million). The new administrative building is being built on land already owned by the school district. The project will cost the District $7.3 million.
