Charlie Wilson: The cartoon candidate

Charlie Wilson

Picture Vero Beach City Council candidate, Charlie Wilson, cowering behind one of the Keystone Cops. With fear on his face, Wilson says to the officer, “Please protect me from that honorably discharged, disabled veteran.”

Such a drawing would accurately depict Wilson’s most recent cartoon moment, when he went into the Vero Beach Police Department claiming to feel threatened by none other than Dian George, the citizen who successfully challenged in court his last city council election, and who has recently filed two elections complaints against Vero Beach’s most contentious politico.

If Wilson considers George anything more than a threat to his grandiose political ambitions, his fear must be born out of a over-active imagination. More likely, Wilson’s latest stunt is just another example of his favorite strategy of attacking the messenger, when he cannot attack the message.

Of the many cartoon moments perennial candidate Wilson has served up over the past year and a half, InsideVero has depicted only a fraction of them.  Over the next two months, as Wilson campaigns yet again for an political office he believes would confer upon him the power and prestige he thinks he deserves, he will surely be offering up countless more opportunities to depict him as the court jester he has become.

Charlie Wilson, acting director of the new Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce: "I want everybody to know that I'm not only running for City Council, I'm running for mayor."

  1. Anybody out there that could tell me the details why Charlie Wilson lost his job at the radio station a few years back?

  2. yes John, I remember well when Charlie Wilson was looking in to Bob Solariie, He said to me. “They asked me if I was investigating or reporting.” That conversation took place in the county building……………….and the next thing, he was gone from the station. I don’t know if that was the cause. I can only tell you, the conversation took place.

  3. I learned via the radio program with Bob Soos that the perennial candidate, Charlie Wilson, sought to be on the School Board. If he had much of a campaign, I missed it.

  4. Yes John, At the county building Charlie Wilson made a comment to me regarding Bob Solarie. He said he was asked if he was reporting or investigating. Soon after, he left WTTB. If that was part of the reason, I don’t know. But very soon after that, he was gone.
