BERNICE O. GRIFFIN, 82, of Vero Beach, Florida died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. 
She was born in the town of Portland in Walton County Florida on March 13, 1932 and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1976 coming from Ft. Pierce, FL. 
Bernice was a homemaker. 
She is survived by her children, John Michael Griffin (Erica), Jane Ford (Bobby), Jason Griffin (Wendy); Sister – Kitturah Amison and multiple grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years in 2013 J.C. Griffin, her parents Edward Harley Hamilton and Maggie Jane (Fountain) Hamilton, brothers Ottis Hamilton, Olin Hamilton and Fletcher Hamilton, Sister Ophelia Bianchi. ANN PELLEGRINO, 101, of Vero Beach, Fl, passed away peacefully on 8/30/14 at 400A East Waverly Place in Vero Beach, with family and caregivers by her side. She was born on October 23, 1912 in New Haven, Ct and lived in Vero Beach for 31 years after coming from Meriden, Ct in 1984. 



Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and godmother. Ann lived her life caring for, loving, spending time and helping her family and friends. Her beautiful smile, gentle personality, generous and kind heart were an inspiration to everyone. 



Ann loved and was so proud of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sports, academic and extracurricular activities. She was also a bigtime Boston Red Sox, UCONN Husky Men’s and UCONN Husky Women’s Basketball fan. And, to say Ann tremendously enjoyed reading, cooking Italian meals for others, gardening in her yard, holiday decorating and playing cards with her friends, would be an understatement. 
She volunteered in several civic activities: the Kiwanis Club in Meriden and The Riverside Theatre and Waverly Place Homeowners Association of Vero Beach; and, was a parish member of Holy Cross Church of Vero Beach and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Meriden. 


Survivors include her son James Pellegrino and daughter-in-law Veronica both of Meriden, Ct; three grandchildren Jeff and Jim Pellegrino both of Meriden, Ct and Linda Barmore of Southington, Ct; eight great-grandchildren: Stephen, Alexandra and Samantha Barmore; Jeffrey, James, Juliann, Eric and Ryan Pellegrino; sisters Dorothy Sebastian of Meriden and Rose Kerr of Wethersfield, Ct, and many nieces and nephews. 



Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 50 yrs Albert Pellegrino, her sister Teresa and nine brothers. 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 12:30pm at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St, Meriden, CT. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Calling hours will be on Friday morning prior to the service from 10:30 to 12:30pm.

RAYMOND SCERBO, 81, died September 1, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Raymond was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Sebastian for 20 Years coming from Pembrooke Pines, FL. He was employed as a master mechanic with the Shiavone Construction Company, Secaucus, NJ for 25 years before his retirement in 1988. Raymond was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. He was an avid fisherman and volunteered with the Sebastian Fishing Club’s, Hook Kids on Fishing annual fishing tournament.

Survivors include wife of 61 years, Elisa Scerbo of Sebastian; son, Anthony Scerbo of Carteret, NJ; daughters, Elaine Dileo (Mark A. ) of Whitehouse Station, NJ and Elisa C. Scerbo of Sebastian; sisters, Mary Colonna (Frank) of Carteret, NJ and Frances Barbetta of Randolf, NJ; grandsons, Christopher Scerbo of Jersey City, NJ and Mark Dileo, Jr. of Fort Lee, NJ; granddaughters, Jamie Dileo-Johmann (Douglas) of Hazlet, NJ and Jessica Scerbo of Carteret, NJ. Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Scerbo.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Interment will follow in Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay. ANTHONY P. STOMBOLI, JR., 83, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, died Friday August 29, 2014 at his home. He was born November 12, 1930 in New Haven, CT and had been a resident of Ft. Pierce for 17 years, coming from Branford, CT. Prior to retirement, Mr. Stomboli worked 27 years with the United States Postal Servic. Mr. Stomboli was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katherine Stomboli; son, Robert Stomboli of Ft. Pierce; daughter, Mary Stomboli of Vero Beach and son, Mark Stomboli of Branford, CT. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Stomboli.

CAPTAIN THOMAS J. TAYLOR, 77, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away August 31, 2014. Captain Taylor graduated in 1958 from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in Kings Port, NY. The first year after graduation, he worked as a civilian employee of the Department of the Navy, running troop ships into Germany and delivering the Turkish United Nations contingent to Korea. He then went to work for Gulf Oil, where he spent the next 24 years as Captain of several tankers, including the Gulf Supertanker, American Independence. After retiring from Gulf in 1983, he spent the next few years running yachts and managing the marinas at the Boca Raton Resort and at Bahia Mar, the largest marina on the East Coast. Captain Taylor received the Silver mariner Award in 1998 from the US Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association in recognition of his successful 25 plus year career at sea as Captain and Master. 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen Taylor of Sebastian, FL; son, Tom Taylor and wife, Wendi of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Eileen Jernigan and husband, Randy of Sebastian, FL; grandchildren, Nicole Stone of Timberlake, NC, Keith Taylor of Atlanta, GA, Jamie Powers of Clendenin, WV; great-grandchildren, Haley McKinnon of Ocala, FL and Damian Kelley of Timberlake, NC; brother, Joseph Taylor of Philadelphia, PA.

JAMES W. TITLEMAN, beloved husband of Roberta Fischer Titelman, died peacefully at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two grandchildren Eric Bennett Falcone of Cambridge, MA and Laura Elizabeth Falcone of Brookline, MA. He was preceded in death by his only child, Elizabeth Titelman Falcone. Jim was born in Atlantic City and lived in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania before moving to Vero Beach, Florida in 1970.

He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and after serving in WW II, completed his education at the University of Pennsylvania. After a 25 year career with the family business, Puritan Sportswear, Jim decided he could have a lot more fun in the stock market and spent his remaining years as a private investor. Jim was a long-time director of Mid-State Bank in Pennsylvania and the founding Vice President of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, PA.

One of his greatest joys in life was collecting art. He was very knowledgeable about art and was truly thrilled to have had the opportunity to donate the Titelman Gallery to the Vero Beach Museum of Art. He served on the museum’s Board of Directors for many years and especially enjoyed working on its permanent collection.

The family will receive friends at The Carlton Clubhouse from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 11th. MARY JOSEPHINE D’HULST WEGNER, 90, died Sept. 2, 2014 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. She was born in Lake Forest, IL, and graduated from Lake Forest High School. Mary worked in the payroll department of Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, IL. She met and married Gerald Wegner in 1944. Mary was active in the American Legion (Post 264) Auxiliary for 3 decades. Mary and Jerry resided in Lake Forest until 1980, when they moved to Vero Beach. Mary was preceded in death by her mother Alida, brothers Jerome and Frank, and her husband Gerald. She is survived by her son, Gerald Sterling Wegner (Debbie) of Dublin, OH and grandchildren Elizabeth A. Wegner and David A. Wegner. Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home (9/4/14)

 

ROBERT “BOB” WHEELER, whose ancestral roots extend back to the Mayflower, died peacefully on September 1, 2014 at the VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach, FL. Born in Brockton, MA, Bob spent much of his childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area City of Burlingame a neighborhood he remembered fondly throughout his life. He later moved to Queens, NY where he met and married his wife, Betty Trainor, who survives him and with whom he was about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.

Bob is also survived by his loving children, Scott Wheeler of Barefoot Bay, FL, Carole Russo of Garden City, NY and Barbara Arms (Ken) of Ocala, FL.; and his only sibling, Edith Baker of West Hempstead, NY. Bob was a devoted grandfather to his granddaughters, Nicole Russo, Jessica Arms, Amanda Arms and Melissa Arms.

After serving in the United States Merchant Marine during WWII, Bob joined Trans World Airlines (TWA). While few people ever discover the work they love, Bob did just that and enjoyed a 36 year career with TWA. During the 1950’s, Bob was part of a “pioneer” group of TWAers who established the company’s international operations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. During this period, Bob and Betty lived in a number of foreign cities including Bombay and Cairo. Living abroad, Bob and Betty cultivated many lifelong friendships. After retiring from TWA in 1983, Bob and Betty moved to Deerfield Beach, FL before settling in Sebastian, FL in 2002.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at Strunk Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. David G. Newhart, Rector, St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church officiating.
