Vero Beach and Indian River County have lost one of its colorful and historic figures, Ralph Sexton, who died this morning at age 86. Ralph was the son of Waldo Sexton, himself a true pioneer of this area when he arrived in 1914.
Ralph Sexton was primarily a cattleman, but the Sexton name is associated with buildings like the Driftwood, Ocean Grill, Patio and what is today the Szechuan Palace restaurant on 43rd Avenue, all founded by his father, Waldo, and carried on by Ralph.
Ralph served on the County Planning and Zoning Commission for over 20 years, continuing to impact our community, its growth and character.
