Supervisor of Elections released video promoting absentee voting

NEWS RELEASE

The Indian River County Supervisor of Elections office recently created a short video to promote voting by absentee ballot. Cute and cuddly animals star in this fun, educational video that demonstrates how easy it is to vote without having to wait in line at a polling site.

Cats, dogs and even a sloth help convey the message that voting by absentee ballot is for anyone and that the Elections Office will mail absentee ballots anywhere in the world.   After watching, viewers will not easily forget that absentee ballots cannot be forwarded and there are specific deadlines for requesting and submitting absentee ballots. To help promote voting, the Elections Office invites the public to watch the video and share it with friends and family via VoteIndianRiver.com.

Absentee ballot voting is quickly becoming the preferred method. Over 40% of voters chose absentee ballot voting to cast their vote in the 2014 Primary Election, and nearly17,000 absentee ballots have been requested for the November 4th General Election.

Voters may request an absentee ballot be mailed to them online, over the phone, by mail or in person until 5:00 p.m. on October 29, 2014. If the absentee ballot delivery address is different than the voter’s residence address, the request must be made in writing. Voters also have the ability to track their absentee ballot at VoteIndianRiver.com after the request has been processed. To check the status of an absentee ballot, click “Track My Absentee Ballot” on the homepage.

  1. Unfortunately, low effort voting encourages the low interest, “Cats, dogs and even a sloth” to vote with no clue as to the real impact of their vote. It is a real effort to take the ballot out of the hands of those who work hard at knowing the issues and the candidates stand on those issues, care about the general welfare It diminishes the goodness of those who consider voting civic responsibility, and vest it in those who think they heard a rumor about something that would be good for them individually, or who think they heard a rumor about how bad some dude was. So goes the dumbing down of America and its political system.

Not a fan of absentee balloting without cause!

  2. I was once of the same opinion of Vic DeMattia but have subsequently changed my mind. All too often in this economy there are far too many people who work two jobs. No one should be denied the opportunity to vote because of a work schedule.
