Moment of zen: Pointing fingers

Though Charlie Wilson did not bring a fan to the Taxpayers Association candidate forum, he found a way to break the rules. When reminded by moderater, Taxpayers Association President, John Kistler, that under the ground rules for the forum participants were not to attack each other by name, Charlie Wilson walked over to Vice Mayor Jay Kramer and simply pointed to him.

Charlie Wilson is apparently so ignorant of the City’s contractual obligations to the Florida Municipal Power Agency that he actually believes it is within Vice Mayor Jay Kramer’s power to have “stalled” the sale.  “Jay Kramer is responsible,” Wilson wrote on his Facebook page, which is where the wanna-be-mayor seems to be conducting his campaign.

What Wilson, Harry Howle, III, Pilar Turner, along with Craig Fletcher and former councilwoman Tracy Carroll, have never grasped is the complete and utter powerlessness of the City to simply walk away from its contractual obligations to its fellow FMPA members and their bondholders.

"Without offering any specifics, city council candidate, Charlie Wilson, goes before the television cameras at virtually every City Council meeting to accuse of current City leaders of "taking the sale from a done deal to a dead deal." In truth, since Pilar Turner and Craig Fletcher lost Tracy Carroll's support and became a minority on the Council, insurmountable legal impediments to the sale became undeniable, even by those with their heads buried in the sand."

Though Council Woman Pilar Turner continues to insist a contract with FPL had to be in place before the City could address its issues with the FMPA, the approach turned out to be a classic case of getting the cart before the horse.

  1. It is too bad no one has yet been able to rein in Mr. Wilson’s mouth. As far as legitimate, contractual agreements, it is apparent some see them as minor hindrances. No doubt a handshake, often used by sincere, honest people in the past, would mean nothing to those who thumb their noses at contracts.

  2. This clown is nothing but a “drama queen”, antics guaranteed to be published somewhere.

If he had an OUNCE of sense about him, he’d realize the fool he’s making of himself.

But alas, only a couple of more weeks to go before Charlie loads up the moving van back to parts beyond the city limits for another four more years…

  3. Mark Twain was prophetic when he said, “It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.”

  4. The issue with those contracts (FMPA etc) was addressed by previous councils. The Troika council never asked any questions or did any research into what was done. I am not sure that they would have listened anyway since they were such now it all. An FPL contract would not and did not make any difference when trying to get out of them. Vero Beach was part of this from the beginning back in the 80’s.
Pilar Turner does not have the best interest of the entire City of Vero Beach.
Also it is still amazing to me that smart men and women who have been around this town for a long time(well more than a few years anyway) would pay attention and support to the likes of Charlie Wilson.
