The Indian River County Commission voted 3-2 to postpone enhancements to the Oslo Road Boat Ramp for three to five years much to the delight of the nearly packed house. The motion to postpone it had been forwarded by Commissioner Solari at the last meeting but discussion postponed until today. Commissioners Flescher and Zorc joined Solari in voting to postpone, Commissioners O’Bryan and Davis opposed it. Davis suggested taking out the asphalt road from the project as the only change needed. O’Bryan cited a number of references before concluding that “the benefits greatly outweigh the disadvantages.”

Earlier, during a final public input, citizen Gail Norris asked, “Why postpone it. It should be laid to rest permanently.”

Commissioner Solari said by delaying it three to five years would effectively kill it, but added that we should know much more about the lagoon and its problems by then to better evaluate the damage if any.

Commissioner Flescher had kept his position quiet until today’s meeting and was the first to speak in favor of the delay.

  1. Bob Solari hopes to be off the county commission in five years, thereby avoiding the hard choices. In five years he wants Mayfield’s seat and Pilar turner wants his county commission seat. This is why she votes against the city as often as she can,

  2. Glad with the vote…I suppose if anyone has any questions they should ask commissioner O’Bryan, who stated he knew more than anyone in the room! My jaw dropped when I heard that comment!

  3. We thought Commissioner Flescher presented his position eloquently. Mr. Zorc looked at the area through the eyes of a dad with children, and indicated Oslo Rd does not have bathroom facilities, picnic tables or racoon proof trash receptacles. Mr. Solari, in response to Chairman O’Bryan’s clinging to “if it’s legal, it’s okay”, stated this issue encompassed more than just being legal. We thank these three for their vote to delay. I’m sure somewhere on our books of rules, regulations, and zoning, there is a provision against adult entertainment, including strippers. These might be legal, but they are not necessarily desirable. In my opinion.
