JEFF BARTON, who retired from the Indian River Clerk of Court in 2012, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Jeff began his career teaching college and working in the banking industry and moved to Indian River County in 1970 from Palm Beach County. Jeff served on the City of Vero Beach Council from December 1980 until March 1984, ARC board from August 1991 until August 1999 (including Chairman from 1998-1999), American Cancer Society Board from October 1999 until present, Florida Association of Court Clerks Service Corporation Board from November 1993 until June 2006 (including Vice Chairman and Chairman positions), Clerk of Court Operations Corporation as Secretary and Treasurer from July 2006 through June 2008, Florida Local Government Investment Trust as Vice Chairman and Chairman from September 2005 through September 2011, Florida League of Cities Insurance Fund Trustee from 1981 to 1983.
Jeff was a member of the Rotary Club from February 2008 to present, Kiwanis Club of Vero Beach from June 1971 through December 1992, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council 1981 to 1982, and the United Way Volunteer Board for Special Allocations. Jeff held the following positions with Indian River County: Finance Director for the Clerk of Circuit Court from April 1978 through June 1983, Budget Director for Indian River County from July 1983 to September 1985, and Assistant Director of Utilities from September 1985 to December 1988. Jeff was elected Clerk of Circuit Court in December 1988 and held the position until his retirement in June 2012. Jeff’s enthusiasm, commitment and guidance to Indian River County and its citizens, Clerk of the Court employees, and fellow constitutional officers provided a positive impact to local and state government. WILLIAM “BILL” HURT, 78, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2014 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.Bill was born in Norfolk, Virginia and moved to Vero Beach in 1992 from Lexington, Kentucky. He received a Master’s Degree from Sewanee:The University of the South. Bill was a veteran, serving in the USAF, and had been an Air Traffic Controller for the Air Force before his retirement. Upon moving to Vero Beach he began working as an Alchohol and Drug Counselor for CORE in Indian River County. Bill was a member of Calvary Chapel of Vero Beach, a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and AMARA.
Survivors include wife of 44 years Alma G. Hurt of Vero Beach, son Walter Hurt of Oklahoma, daughter Tina (Tom) Haney of Madison, Mississippi, sons Michael (Stefani) Hurt and Mark (Michele) Hurt of Lexington, daughter Deborah Hurt of Lexington, grandchildren Teresa, Jasmine, Caitlin, Lilly and Christian, great-granddaughter Brooklyn, and a brother Steve Hurt of Atlanta, Georgia.

ANNALEE I. MACNAB, 91, died October 20, 2014 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan and lived in Sebastian since 2005 coming from her birthplace. Annalee was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #10210, Sebastian, FL.
Survivors include son, Dan R. MacNab and daughter-in-law, Janina of Sebastian, FL; grandsons, Jeff Bridges of Columbia, Maryland and Matt Willet of Muskegon, Michigan; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters. PATRICIA ANN O’REILLY, 85, passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, October 21, at 1:33 pm. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Phillip A. O’Reilly, and her children Martin Gordon and his wife Anna, Phillip, jr, and his wife Kristen, daughter Ann, Robert and his wife Sophia, Regan and his wife Teri, and nine grandchildren, Regan, Emmy, Sara, Matthew, Jackie, Jessica, Aidan, Shane, and Connor. Patricia was born on October 11, 1929, and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She met her brother’s friend from college, Phil, the handsome captain of the Purdue football team, and they were married on June 28, 1952. Patricia gave up teaching school to raise their family, and they moved seven times, each time building a new home and settling their 5 children. She had an eye for antiques, and passed her knowledge and passion to all her children.
Patricia’s two main passions were her family and her enduring faith. She was a devoted member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites of St. John of the Cross Community. She gently influenced those around her by her unending devotion to her Catholic faith. She never stopped praying for and believing in her beloved family, and was a source of strength to her care givers, family, and friends. Her glowing spirit, along with her beautiful and loving smile touched the lives of countless people.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, from 5-7 pm, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, October 24th at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
