The anatomy of a Charlie Wilson lie

truth squad

Vero Beach City Council candidate, Charlie Wilson, is a master at telling half truths and lies.  For example, he continues to claim I once “called a Christian group a hate group.”  Wilson’s claim is simply not true, and he knows it.

In covering the 2013 controversy caused when then Mayor Craig Fletcher and then Vice Mayor Tracy Carroll refused to sign a proclamation recognizing “Humanist Week,” InsideVero reported that local humanists had previously objected to another group’s sponsorship of Christian Heritage Week.  The humanists were opposed to the American Family Association’s involvement in Christian Heritage Week, they said, because the group had been identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group.

Wilson, ever the twister of the truth, ignores the fact that there was no way to fully and fairly report the background of the story without explaining the reason one group gave for objecting to another.

Vero Beach City Council candidate, Charlie Wilson, has taken his campaign to his Facebook page, where he posts one mean-spirited, irresponsible, unfounded accusation after another.

Wilson’s Facebook page has become a poster board for falsehoods and fantasy.  Seemingly, he cannot bring himself to tell the truth, which could be why neither the Press Journal nor Vero Beach 32963 endorsed Wilson.

It is interesting to note, though, that the press’ apprehension about Wilson is not shared by a number of large contributors to his campaign and to political action committees supporting him. Wilson’s generous supporters include the Realtors Association of Indian River County ($500), the George E. Warren Corporation ($5,000), the Hill Group ($400) and Florida Power & Light ($9,000).

Given Vero Beach 32963 publisher, Milton Benjamin’s, consistent and unqualified support for the sale of Vero Electric, that he could not bring himself to endorse Wilson is a sobering fact.  Wilson, the island weekly’s editorial board said, “is too divisive.”

As to Wilson’s objection to our posting of a link to a satirical YouTube video making fun of the power sale sage, well, for those who missed it, below it the link to the video. Don’t miss it.

  1. It only takes a visit to the AFA website to note their position on homosexuals and same-sex marriages. While it may be their “right” to feel that way, they surely have not noticed that homosexuals have been on this Earth a very long time – closeted, of course. The man who broke the Enigma code (bringing WW2 to a swifter conclusion) was, as reported on CBS Sunday Morning today, a homosexual. Homosexuals are sons, uncles, cousins, brothers…..and their female counterparts are daughters, aunts, cousins, and sisters. I do not believe any deity would cast to the side some of the most creative, loving, and caring people. As far as Mr. Wilson is concerned, he will answer for whatever he says or does – just like the rest of us.

  2. Thank you for that Kathy. I have always believed that in Charlie’s case, he might get by, but he will not get away. I do not have to do anything. He has spewed terrible untruth both verbally and in writing against not only me, but anyone who takes exception to his distorted perception of reality. It is certainly understandable why 32963 did not endorse him because he is too divisive. When I vote, I want to have confidence that I can trust the elected official to represent our best interests. Its very difficult to comprehend how anyone could support someone who pitches a tent over the sidewalk at a polling place and posts it on his facebook page. I believe he was told to remove it, but the very thought that a candidate for public office would do something like that is a total lack of respect for the citizens of Vero Beach. He thinks he has the election in the bag. He is too sure of himself. He showed that when he pitched his tent at the library.
