Currently, if a developer were interested in purchasing Royal Palm Pointe Park, a three-person majority on the City Council could sell the property. A proposed amendment to the City Charter on the ballot Nov. 4 would require voter approval before the popular park, along with other public lands, including Crestlawn Cemetery, could be sold.

The site of the former Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty has been purchased by One Royal Palm Pointe LLC of West Palm Beach. Plans submitted to the City call for the current structure to be demolished and replaced by a 7,0000-square-foot, two-story restaurant and a three-story, 16-unit hotel. The project is to be built on 1.2-acres adjacent to Royal Palm Pointe Park.
To be named the Quail Valley River Club Hotel & Restaurant, the new development has yet to be reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Board. According to Community Development Director Tim McGarry, departmental reviews of plans submitted by One Royal Palm Pointe must be completed before the proposed project is reviewed by P&Z. The earliest P&Z will consider the project, McGarry said, will be Dec. 4.
