Harry Howle, III, Pilar Turner and Charlie Wilson, all of whom have raised the majority of their campaign contributions from special interests outside the city and from out-of-city residents, have tried to make the election about the sale of Vero Electric.
All three have also made some bold promises. Howle assures voters he can further cut city spending. Turner says she is prepared to raise taxes on city residents to cut electric rates to the benefit of Vero Electric’s out-of-city customers. Wilson, who once described himself as “the world’s worst lawyer,” says he can accomplish what $500-an-hour attorneys who billed the City some $2 million could not, namely find a way to sell Vero Electric to Florida Power & Light.
