Dr. Paul Horton has been appointed Assistant Dean of Mathematics, Natural Science, Performing and Visual Arts at Indian River State College. He will oversee all mathematics, science, performing and visual arts programs with a focus on active learning and internship opportunities.
“Dr. Horton is committed to student success,” said Dr. Anthony Iacono, IRSC Vice President of Academic Affairs. “With his extensive experience in science education and his personal appreciation for the performing and visual arts, Dr. Horton will play an important role in the College’s continuing focus on science, technology, engineering and math while also maintaining focus on culture and the arts.”
A Vero Beach resident, Dr. Horton has taught chemistry at IRSC since 1997 and served as the Chair of the Department of Physical Sciences for the past 14 years. He has served on numerous IRSC committees to enhance teaching and learning. At the state level, he served as a member of the Florida Department of Education’s General Education Advisory Committee which is responsible for setting the standards for General Education in Florida’s colleges and universities. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California and spent the early part of his career working as a research scientist at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution.
