For high school senior Andrea Moscoso Luppi, every day since her arrival from Ecuador at age five has been an opportunity to excel. As a student at Indian River Charter High School (IRCHS), she has had extraordinary freedom to develop herself academically as well as artistically.
Through participation in the dual enrollment program, Andrea has been attending college courses since her freshman year, starting with one college class each semester, and working her way up to four courses per semester on top of the four AP classes she takes at IRCHS. She is currently just one credit short of her AA (Associate of Arts) degree from Indian River State College- by the time she reaches her high school graduation she will have 90 college credits already under her belt.
Aside from her collegiate accomplishments, Andrea is also very active in several extracurricular activities, which allow her to express her artistic capabilities. She plays the violin, and cites her favorite class as AP Music Theory, where students are allowed the opportunity to experiment with other junior musicians in areas like music composition and arrangement.Truly a multi-talented young woman, Andrea dreams of a minor in Music
Theory when she gets to college, and credits her musically inclined family with her love for music. Her father is an architect and a talented guitarist, not to mention her mother is a Food Engineer/Inspector with a penchant for singing to her family. Clearly, academic and musical intelligence are intertwined in the Moscoso Luppi household.
Another extracurricular activity and talent of note in Andrea’s repertoire is dance. According to Andrea, her affinity for dancing was inspired on a trip to her birthplace of Ecuador where she spent a family reunion as the only relative who didn’t know how to dance. After learning the Latin dances that we all wish we could do, she shifted her focus to ballet, and has developed into an accomplished amateur ballerina. She dances at her school regularly, and recently was the principal dancer in the school’s rendition of Aida.
Despite her passionate love of the arts, Andrea has also found yet another extracurricular to develop herself, this time not only academically but also culturally. As a member of the Model United Nations, Andrea was with the rest of the IRCHS delegation when they participated in a mock UN meeting at UCF. At this prestigious interscholastic event, the IRCHS delegation was awarded “Best Small Delegation”, and Andrea herself received an Honorable Mention.
With such an impressive story as of yet, you might think all her accomplishments to date are impressive, but there is no doubt that even greater things lie ahead for Andrea. She aspires to become a Neurobehavioral
Psychologist, which is a a specialist in the acquired and developmental disorders of the nervous system. And more than simply knowing the field she wants to pursue, young Andrea has honed in on the particular organization she hopes to one day be a part of: the RAND Corporation. RAND is a nonprofit institution that helps pass new legislations through the publication of medical research.
With these altruistic and intellectual aspirations, there is no question that Andrea will soon find herself at one great college or another. The one question that remains is of course, which college will she choose? At the moment, Andrea is considering Yale University, UF, Duke University and Vanderbilt University- and she is no doubt an appealing candidate to all of them. With such a promising future winking ahead of her, and so many amazing achievements behind her, Andrea Moscoso. Luppi is truly a rising star.
