
Richard Van Mele and The Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach were honored at the Second Annual Hope through Service Award luncheon on December 9. The Homeless Family Center held the invitation-only event at The Plaza in Vero Beach where over 60 guests gathered for the presentation and to give praise for the accomplishments of Van Mele and The Notre Dame Club.
Executive Director Mary Ellen Maguire presented Van Mele and The Notre Dame Club with the well-deserved awards for their years of dedication, passion and support which has helped sustain HFC for over 24 years. Van Mele gave a heartfelt speech about his ongoing involvement and the history of HFC. Tom Tierney, Notre Dame Club member, spoke on behalf of the Club who has been committed champions of the Center. John Moore emceed the event and shared stories about Van Mele and the Club who have inspired many community members since day one and continue to be advocates for the homeless. Hope through Service Award is given to an individual or group on the Treasure Coast who has been instrumental in assisting HFC achieve its mission.
HFC, a United Way Agency, provides opportunities for homeless families to end homelessness by achieving self-sufficiency through education, living wages and permanent housing. HFC provides the tools to empower residents by helping them to identify and resolve their problems, find better jobs, and ultimately move into homes where they can become contributing members of our community. HFC also has A Second Chance Thrift Store and Training Center (ASC) located at 490 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach. Donations accepted year round; merchandise pick-up is available.
