To the editor: ‘Your newspaper is an atrocity.’

Mr Schumann –

Please save yourself money and us time by ceasing to send your ABSURD newsletter to our house. Your love for VB Utilities and disdain for all of us who despise our financial obligation to it are patently ridiculous.

You do provide laughs to our neighbors, I’ll grant you that. – Laughs as in, “Who are these morons?”

We in Indian River Shores are confident we can move away from VB Utilities – one of the most expensive utilities in Florida (are you aware of that? apparently not) and get relief, like our neighbors with FPL, who are so happy with their provider. Yes, our friends across the street are lucky enough to have FPL and their bills are at least 30% less than ours. Gee, you probably think that’s a terrible thing.

And by the way, are you aware that two different surveys showed that 2/3 of Vero residents want VB Utilities to cease being their electricity provider? Why in the world would you defend it? One can only surmise………..

– PLEASE KEEP OUT OF OUR MAILBOX. Your newspaper is an atrocity.

  1. The house across the street looks to be half the size of the Morgans. Gee, I wonder if that has anything to do with the 30% difference in electric bills?

  2. Guess they just don’t get it. We all want lower costs! However, it is about the intransigence of contractual obligations. Vero Beach cannot just breach without very serious consequence. The previous council should have known this before running down this very very costly road. Now, we all get to spend even more time and money for nothing. Don’t blame the messenger for telling you like it is!

  3. Wow, I guess i now have company, the Morgans. Only I would never give up the wonderful opportunity to be heard and I love Inside Vero, just not the horrible electric company. I agree that the rates are too high and we need relief. You are allowed to your opinion, and do a great job with everything not concerning the Utilities! Keep up the good work, I am not “shocked” by the Morgans who happen to be good people!

  4. It appears that the Morgans have very strong feelings regarding their utility bill. I also appears they don’t comprehend what they read. Mr Schumann’s articles were not written “in defense” of Vero Beach Utilities, they were written to point out the facts that were missing from articles in the other local newspapers. ie….Vero Utilities’ rates are not outrageously high in comparison to other independent utilities in Florida and FPL with the help of some individuals is attempting to strong arm their way into buying VB Utilities. I’ve had service from both companies and quite frankly FPL service is lousy. I gladly to pay higher rates to have the more reliable service VB offers.

  5. Mark, keep the Inside River newspaper coming to my mailbox,it is the ONLY source of non propaganda in Vero. To those people who think 32963 and the PJ are not two propaganda outlets, think again.

  6. When we had the double hurricanes in ’04, our “horrible” power plant people had us back with power before that other electric utility…..but even if it hadn’t, I know the workers are from this area and have a personal interest in seeing that their customers are taken care of. I’m sorry the out-of-city people did not have the option to choose but as I understand it, there WAS no option at the time the island was being developed–or else the developers just took the softer, easier way–and the City of Vero Beach was it. I would be willing to come over and help rip out all the power lines and let someone else take over just to be relieved of having to hear so much complaining. Have a wonderful day and be grateful that there is such a thing as electric power. Personally, I would love to have solar power and maybe that would be a good option for all of us. Be well.

  7. I was just curious, what survey are they talking about? I am so sorry that you have to get power from Vero Beach Electric. Why not sell your house and move.
