COMMENTARY
MARK SCHUMANN
When I heard Press Journal columnist Larry Reisman was recently seen having lunch with Indian River County Commissioner Bob Solari, I know it was only a matter of time before Reisman would serve up a lightly reasoned call for dismantling the Florida Municipal Power Agency.
Yesterday was the day Reisman, who works for a newspaper headed by a publisher who is married to a key Florida Power and Light Vice President, offered his, or Bob Solari’s, or Glen Heran’s, or FPL’s rational for breaking up the FMPA. Highly improbably thought it may be, the move would almost surely clear the way for FPL President Eric Silagy to implement his company’s strategy of expanding its customer base by acquiring municipal utilities across the state. (At a 2013 investor conference, Silagy told FPL stockholders Gov. Rick Scott was encouraging the state’s municipal utilities to sell to FPL.)
Anyone who missed what the Press Journal columnist turned FPL propagandist thinks is the best path toward lower electric rates need only read his column in yesterday’s “Scripps/FPL” Press Journal.

I hope they both enjoyed their lunch. So what else is new in Vero? The PJ wanting to get FPL to take over Vero Electric by any means possible ,and at bargain prices, that’s not new. Solari spinning a story to get FPL into the city, that’s not new. The PJ being the toady for FPL, that’s not new. Bob and Amy calling the “shots” at the PJ to get the FPL as our electric provider, that’s not new either. I am sure the server wasn’t the only one taking orders at this luncheon.
