JOHN WESLEY DEVANE, SR. passed away on February 11, 2015, in Vero Beach, Florida. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, January 25, 1937, a third generation native of Florida. He was the youngest son of Emery and Fern Osborn DeVane. Graduating from Vero Beach High School in 1955. A life long Commercial Fisherman and a long standing member of Organized Fisherman of Florida. He enjoyed being a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Fraternal Organizations of the Orioles and Eagles. Survived by his wife Karen Galligan DeVane of Sebastian. His son John DeVane, Jr and two daughters Joyce DeVane Mallory and Roxanne DeVane Mackey of Micco, brother Jerry DeVane of White City, Florida. His 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at Fisherman Landing in Sebastian on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 1pm.

ALICE CEALIA JELEN, 89, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Palm Garden of Vero Beach in Vero Beach, FL. Alice was born in Chicago, IL and had been a resident of Sebastian for 7 years coming from Hemet, CA. Prior to retirement Alice had worked at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach, CA for over 20 years. Alice enjoyed reading and crafts. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Spears (Frank), of Sebastian, FL, Kathy Podolski, of Fort Collins, CO, Laurie Jespersen, of Riverton, UT, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, FL. NINA T. LEWIS, 71, passed away on February 17, 2015. Nina was born in Suffolk, Virginia and has been a resident of Vero Beach for the past 14 years. Nina is survived by sons, Robert, Tim, Ronny, and Todd; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. ROBERT FRANK LONGBINE, 90 of Vero Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Indian River Medical Center.

Bob was born on September 13, 1924 in Rochester, NY to Edward and Loretta Longbine. He graduated from Irondequoit High School in 1942 where he was the President of the student body, a member of the National Honor Society, and captained numerous sports teams. He went on to attend Syracuse University for one year on a football scholarship then transferred to and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as part of a Navy training program. After graduation, he was commissioned and served in the US Navy during World War II. Later, he was recalled during the Korean Conflict where he served as a cryptographer in Washington, DC.

His career was in the pulp and paper industry where he started as a Paper Production Manager, then held various positions, which culminated in being named President, COO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Champion International. Bob served on numerous corporate boards, community boards and advisory councils.

After retirement in 1987, Bob and his wife, Jerry, settled at John’s Island in Vero Beach. He continued his love of golf (having played since he was 10) and riding his horses. In addition, Bob was an avid duplicate bridge player and an active member in the Vero Beach Bridge Center. He was also a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Geraldine H. Longbine in 2013, his parents and three siblings, June Jackson, Kenneth Longbine and Ralph Longbine. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Larry ) Ownbey of Seneca, SC, Laurie (Robert) Puccini of Savannah, GA, Karen (Mac) Jordan of Johns Creek, GA and Ellen (Steve) Waugh of Easton, CT; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob had a stellar career, but his real legacy was his genuine love of family and friends. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met because he took a sincere interest in all of them. He championed education and encouraged not only his progeny, but all youth to develop their talents. He was straightforward, kind, generous, had a wonderful sense of humor and could capture an audience recounting his life experiences – truly epitomized “the greatest generation.”

A celebration of Bob’s life will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. GLORIA J. SMITH, 73, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL. Gloria was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on August 31, 1941.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Dale Smith; daughter, Jante Bartholomew, son, J.V. Smith; her sisters, Lois, Kathy, Judy, Mary Jane; brothers, Donald, Gerald, James, David, Thomas and Glen; 2 grandchildren, Emerald Ameho, Blake Bartholomew and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sophia and father, Rupert Dettlaff; brother, Robert; sisters, Dorothy, Jean, Pat, Marlyn and Ruth(Sister Merryn).

RONALD JOSEPH SOUZA, 72 of Yee Haw Junction, FL died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Ronald was born in Fall River, MA and lived Yee Haw Junction for 9 years coming from Vero Beach. He was a founding member of the Indian River Soccer Association, Vero Beach.

Survivors include wife of 42 years, Beverly Jean Souza of Yee Haw Junction; sons, Jason Souza, Mark Souza both of Vero Beach and Ronald Souza of Sommerset, MA; daughter, Leslie Ellinwood of Swansea, MA; brother, Joseph Souza of Naples, ME; sister, Eleanor Dupont of Vero Beach; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 in memory of Ronald Joseph Souza. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
