JOHN J. AMODEI, 85, of Spanish Lakes Fairways, Fort Pierce, FL, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL. John was born June 1, 1929, in Manhattan, NY, son of the late, Anna and John Amodei. John loved traveling for over ten years with his wife, Toni. John and Toni moved to Spanish Lakes Fairways fourteen years ago from Toms River, NJ. Prior to retirement John was a wholesale buyer for Office Furniture and Design.

He was a boxing manager in the 1960’s and a avid Yankee fan all of his life. John attended St. John of the Cross, Vero Beach, FL, and a member of Italian American Club, Spanish Lakes, Fort Pierce, FL.

John is survived by his wife of 12 years, Antonia “Toni”, Amodei, of Spanish Lakes Fairways, Fort Pierce, Fl, stepdaughters, Roselinda Hatcher and her husband, William, of Jacksonville, NC, Melissa Sacco of Allenton, NJ, Victoria Massara, and her husband, Alan, of Avon By The Sea, NJ, sisters, Mary Thompson and Petrina Bucker both of Seattle, WA, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

JACK ROY ANDERSON, 90 of Vero Beach, passed away March 28, 2015. He was born February 14, 1925 in Mansfield, Ohio to Roy and Katherine Anderson and moved to Vero Beach in 1992, coming from Greenwich, CT. Mr. Anderson served in the United Sates Navy, during WWII- Pacific Fleet. He also was chairman of Take Care, Inc., FHP International Corporation in 1996, president of Hospital Affiliates, Inc, from 1970-1981, a member of the Board of overseers of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, a member of the President’s Circle for National Academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine in Washington DC, Glove Valley Rod and Gun Club in New York, Doubley Doubley in Florida. Mr. Anderson graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio 1947, and Master’s degree in Finance from Colombia Business School 1949.

Jack is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Anderson; three children, Gail (Rob) Canizares, Neil (Amy) Anderson, Barbara (David) McDonald; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, Bill Hissner of Wooster, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

KATE TODD BEACH, a resident of Washington, DC, passed away after a brief illness on March 31st surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Webster and Eleanor Todd,was born in New York City and grew up in Oldwick, New Jersey. Kate is survived by her husband of 45 years, Samuel F. Beach Jr; her son Charles K. Thompson, two grandsons; Charlie and Webster; a brother Webster B. Todd and a sister Christine Todd Whitman as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A brother, John R. Todd predeceased her. Kate was a graduate of the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia and attended Bryn Mawr and Smith College. She was an enthusiastic tennis player and loved playing at the Maidstone Club the Somerset Hills Country Club, Chevy Chase Club and Sea Oaks. She loved walking on the beach at her winter home in Vero Beach, Florida.

Kate was an avid reader and loved working on crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful and graceful dancer and especially enjoyed Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers movies. She was fond of Dixie Land jazz and the songs of Gershwin,Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Frank Sinatra. Kate was elegant, poised and reserved and extremely loyal to her family and friends. She loved all her long-haired, dachshunds: Hershey Bar, Lexie,Jillie, Paddington and Percy. Her favorite city was Paris and she never tired of traveling to France and was there just last Fall. Kate was a member of the Chevy Chase Club, Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis and John’s Island. She was a past member of the Sulgrave Club.

Memorial services will be held later in the spring or early summer in Washington DC and Bedminster, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to the Foxcroft School, Middleburg, VA or the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, FL would be appreciated.

 

SADIE AGNES CAGLE, 89, died April 6, 2015 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Survivors include granddaughter, Angie Heinlen of Vero Beach; sons, James Earl Cagle and Barry Lynn Cagle both of Tequesta. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Southern Memorial Cemetery, North Miami Beach, FL with Rev. Bruce Frye, officiating.

 

RAYMOND E. CAMPBELL, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 28, 2015. He was born in Bankston, Alabama to Denver and Iowa Campbell. Raymond has been a Vero Beach resident since 1960, coming from Leesburg, Florida. Mr. Campbell was a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Raymond was a retired house manager of Harbor Citrus in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Rema Dell Campbell; brothers, Daniel Campbell and Ernest Campbell; sisters, Estelle Billings, Ludella Ponds, and Edith Wrobleski; children, Crystal Ann Schacht, Mark E. Campbell, Gregory Campbell, Cecil Briggs, David Briggs, and Sylvia Briggs; local grandchildren, Daniel Clinton Schacht and Christopher Kyle Schacht; local great-grandchildren, Jonathan Easton Schacht and Jordan Rawlings Schacht. There will be a private memorial service at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home.

 

ROBERT “BOB” COX, 69, of Sebastian, Florida passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Sebastian River Medical Center. Bob was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and moved to Sebastian in 1985, coming from Baltimore, Maryland. He had been a Senior Maintenance Worker with the Road and Bridge Department for Indian River County. He was a member of Calvary Chapel of Sebastian,the Italian American Club of Sebastian and a proud volunteer with the Roseland Volunteer Fire Department, Roseland, Florida.

Survivors include a daughter, Robin Sue Godwin and her husband, James of Georgetown, Ohio; son, Robert Brian Cox and his wife, Kathryn of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and grandchildren, Kaitlynne Godwin, Christopher Godwin, James Godwin, III, Coral Cox, Thomas Cox and Scarlett Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Susan Elizabeth Cox. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation,1040 Woodcock Road, Ste. 119, Orlando, FL 32803. Services will be planned for a later date.

 

ANNA MAY DIESU, 82, died March 31, 2015 at her residence in Barefoot Bay FL. Anna was born in Brooklyn, NY and retired from the NY Telephone Company in 1982 before living in Barefoot Bay, coming from West Islip, NY. She was a member of St.Luke Catholic Church, where she was an usher for over 20 years; a member of the Barefoot Bay Homemaker’s; Little Theater, Italian American, Polish American and the MAH JUNG Club.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Robert Diesu; daughter Denise; sons Dwayne and Douglas; grandsons Jimmy, Robert and Anthony; granddaughters Tova, Lauren, Stephanie, Katie and Justine; great grandchildren Ami-El, Ya’el, Riley Paige and Blake Richard.

Visitation will be held 2:00 PM till 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian, A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, FL.

 

VERNA REGINA (PALECEK) GORMAN, 98, passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 in Vero Beach, FL. Verna was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on November 26, 1916 daughter of the late Lena and Frank Palecek. She lived in Marshfield, WI until 2007 and then in Elm Grove, WI. In 2012, Verna moved to an Assisted Living facility in Vero Beach, FL. Verna married Jim Gorman of Lawyler, Iowa in September of 1939. She and Jim raised six children in Marshfield, WI. Jim passed away in 1980. Verna was a devoted Catholic and spent 25 years volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul in Marshfield. Golf and bridge were her favorite pastimes. Her favorite saying was “How can a young person be tired, I have never been tired a day in my life!”

Verna is survived by three sons and two daughters; James Gorman and JoAnne Matchette of Elm Grove, WI, Mike Gorman and his wife, Carol of Pewaukee, WI, Mary Margenau and her husband, Jeff of New Glarus, WI, and Pat Gorman and his wife, Holly of Vero Beach, FL, eight grandchildren, Holly Wiebelhaus and her husband, Neal, of Wales, WI, Annelise Matchette of Denver, CO, Becky Schonscheck, and her husband, Ryan, Corey Higbee, and Molly Gorman, all of Arizona, Patrick, Jack and Megan Gorman all of Vero Beach, FL, four great-grandchildren; Lane and Grace Wiebelhaus and Peyton and Conner Schonscheck.
Verna was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen in 2002, and the following siblings, Marie Young, Linus Palecek, Eugene Palecek, Rose Burr, Esther Durst, Pat Palecek, Sally Baumer, Jerome Palecek and Victor Palecek.

A Private Service for the immediate family was held in Vero Beach on April 4, 2015. A Celebration of Verna’s life will be held this summer in Elm Grove, WI. ROBERT JOHN MALM, born in Estonia in 1925 to Edward and Laura Malm, came to the United States in 1928. His father was a merchant seaman. The family settled in Brooklyn, NY and Robert graduated from Brooklyn Tech. He received a football scholarship to Illinois, but transferred after one year to Cornell, where he was a member of the football team in 1948-1950. Robert graduated from Cornell in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree. Robert served in the US Army Air Corps from 1944-1946, and then he served in the US Air Force, 1952-1953. Then Robert started his career in Personal Management and recruitment. Robert worked for several companies, including Lee’s Carpets, RCA, Freeport Sulphur, Thiokol, and Hercules. Later in life, Robert became an Investment Broker.

Robert first married Nancy Hiller in 1950. After this marriage ended in divorce he remarried, Rita P. Malm in 1970. They resided in New York City for many years and eventually moved to Jupiter, Florida. Robert moved to Vero Beach in 2005 after Rita passed away.

Robert is survived by his children: Robert Malm, and his wife, Leslie of Alexandria, VA; and Kristina Bryan of LaGrange, GA; a sister, Eleanor Foeller; two nieces and one nephew; seven grandchildren, Chris Malm; Desiree Stoecker and her husband, Chris; Kristin Lupien and her husband, John; Jonathan Bryan and his wife, Angie; Lindsey Malm; Jessica Farmer and her husband, Dan; and James Malm; and also five great grandchildren.

SUSAN BLEND McKINLAY COLLINS HARRIED passed away on Sunday, April 5 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. While the COPD finally took her body, it never conquered her spirit and she remained resolute in her fight against this dreaded condition. Susan was assisted in this struggle by her husband of 29 years and the excellent medical staff at Indian River Medical Center and her wonderful doctor, Dr. Michael Tonner. Susan was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 17, 1944, the loving daughter of Donald and Barbara McKinlay. She spent her formative years in Denver, Colorado and after graduation from Colorado College she began a lengthy teaching career, first in Denver and then at Stoughton High School in Stoughton, Wisconsin. While at Stoughton High School, Susan served as the department chair of the pupil services department and implemented a student tutoring program at the local elementary schools. As a consequence of this program, many of her students followed her into the teaching profession. Like most wives, mothers and grandmothers, Susan was loving and caring, always helping others without expecting anything in return. She enjoyed reading, doing cross word puzzles and remaining up to date with current events. Susan resided at her beloved Sea Watch Condominium in Vero Beach, where she built cherished relationships with Glenn Morris, Barbara Jones, Karen O’Connor, Leo and Shirley Wyrembek, Herman and Dyan Schwall and many other neighbors.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Donald McKinlay (Helen); her mother, Barbara Sheridan(Dr. Paul); and her brother Tom McKinlay. Susan is survived by her husband, Olin; her father in law, Olin Sr.; her adult children, Matt Collins(Lina), Kelly Rietow(Rick), Kim Zaudtke(Al), Kerry Harried; her brother, David McKinlay(Christine); and her good friend, Linda Olson of Stoughton, WI. A life well lived, she will be missed by all…. She made a difference to all who knew her.

 

MILDRED “MILLIE” JACOBS, 95, formerly of Howell, MI passed away on March 25, 2015. Predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Wendell E. Jacobs.

Survived by five children: Ronald Jacobs; Karen Salswedel; Wendell Jacobs, Jr.;Jan (Steve) Mateskon and Jill (David) Meadows; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in South Dakota to Pearl E. and Walter B. Horton, both of Kirksville, MO.Predeceased by 11 siblings. Millie met medical student, Wendell in Missouri. Married in Ohio, they started his medical practice in Michigan. A keen businesswoman, she purchased rental properties in Florida and Michigan. Always a tough negotiator and marathon shopper with a classic eye for decorating, she filled life with beauty and style. She loved dancing, bridge,traveling with “Doc”, reading, entertaining, art, motor coach and won several snowmobile races. Millie believed that her life was always guided by her faith in the Lord.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach from 4-6pm with a funeral service beginning at 6:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mildred’s honor be sent to the American Cancer Society or to The American Heart Association.

 

REBECCA LYNN KING, 56, died March 29, 2015 in Springfield, Missouri. She was born in Vero Beach, Florida to William “Curtis” and Patricia Hayes King .

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Robin Gassen (Eric) and granddaughter Bella Gassen of Springfield, Missouri and brother William “Jack” King of Miami, Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 10:00am in the Strunk Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Ft. Pierce.

 

LAVERNE E. LANGFITT, 92, died March 27, 2015 at Harbor Chase of Vero Beach. Laverne was born in Island Grove, FL and lived in Vero Beach for 63 years coming from Lakeland, FL. She was a member of the Community Church, Vero Beach.Laverne was a member of the Garden Club of Indian River County, Quail Valley River and Golf Club, Vero Beach Yacht Club and the Vero Beach Country Club. She served as a volunteer for Indian River Memorial Hospital Lady’s Auxiliary.
Survivors include husband of 72 years, David R. Langfitt, Sr. of Vero Beach; sons, David R. “Skip” Langfitt, Jr. and John R. Langfitt both of Vero Beach; brother, Clyde Lavelle Ergle of Winter Haven, FL; sister, Juanita MacDonald of Merritt Island, FL; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Community Church, Vero Beach.

 

CONSTANCE C. LARSEN, 72, of Fairfield, CT passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at her winter home in Vero Beach, FL. Known to all as “Bonnee”, she was a life-long resident of Faifield and a graduate of Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, CT and Marjorie Webster College in Washington, D.C. She made her debut in New Haven, CT in 1961. She was a member of The Board of Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford,CT. An avid golfer, she had been a member of the board of The Country Club of Fairfield and The Fairfield County Hunt Club. A summer resident of Nantucket, MA, she was a member of The Nantucket and Pequot Yacht Club, the Sankaty Head Golf Club and The John’s Island Club. She was a staunch supporter and volunteer at The Nantucket Cottage Hospital and The Connecticut Audubon Society, among others.
Survivors include her husband Robert R. Larsen; sister Deidre C. McGurk of West Palm Beach; nephews John J. McGurk of New York City, NY and A. Whitney McGurk of West Palm Beach,FL; stepdaughter Wende Burdick and her husband Michael of Tampa,FL; stepson Timothy Larsen and his wife Mary of Moretown, VT; stepgranddaughters Jessica Murray of Washington, DC and Robin Bliven and her husband Joel of Greenville, NC; and step great-granddaughters Bailey and Lily. MARGARET M. MOONEY, 95, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. Margaret, known to many as Marge, was born in 1919 in Constantinople. She had been a resident of Vero Beach for the past 40 years moving from Liverpool, NY. Margaret was closely associated with and supported the Armenian Relief Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Haig Menasian in 1971. She was also preceded in death by her second husband of 27 years, Fred Mooney in 2001.

Margaret is survived by her children, Robert H Menasian and his wife, Anna, of Cary, NC, James Menasian of Hyattsville, MD, and Carol S Menasian of Salem, UT; five grandchildren, Robert J Menasian of Boca Raton, FL, Lynda Norton and her husband David of Fuquay Varina, NC, Melanie Hiester and her husband John, of Cary, NC, Jessica Menasian and Adra Menasian both of Provo, UT. Four great-grandchildren, Elijah Hiester of Cary, NC, Kade Boulter, Seda and Joshua Wilson all of Provo, UT. One brother and one sister, Garo and Rosemary both of Cleveland, OH.

CARL PARKER, 84, of Vero Beach passed away April 5, 2015 at Indian River Medical Center. Carl was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1930 and grew up in South Bend Indiana where he graduated from John Adams High School. He graduated from DePauw University as a Rector Scholar with a pre-medical science degree in 1953, where he was a member of Phi Gama Delta. He then obtained his Medical Degree from Northwestern Medical School where he belonged to Nu Sigma Nu. Carl completed his internship and residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan and served for two years at Sheppard Air Force Base as an Otolaryngologist. Carl then went into private practice in Toledo Ohio, where he also served as an ENT consultant at Toledo Hospital. He was recently honored as a distinguished 50 year member of Pro Medica at Toledo Hospital. During his life he enjoyed sailing, golfing, fishing, traveling and being with family and friends. He loved art and has been an elected fellow at the Royal Society in London since 1983.
He is survived by his wife Kay of 58 years; son David and wife Judith, grandchildren, Chris, Scott, Zachary and Lauren; son Jeffery and wife Elaine, grandchildren Megan, Nicholas, Katie; son Michael and wife Christine, grandchildren Kelsie, Sarah, Erin and Ben; brother Bruce and wife Janet. All will greatly miss him.

SHERMAN KENNEDY REED, 95, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, FL. Sherman was born April 11, 1919, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Frank Hynes Reed and Helen Louise (Kennedy) Reed. In WWII he was involved with the Manhattan Project from which he earned his PhD. As head of research and development for FMC Corp. he directed the development of the fuel for the Titan rockets. He was Chairman of the Board of the Franklin (Institute) Research Center. He was listed in Who’s Who of American Scientists.

Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Octavia Reed of Vero Beach, one son, and two daughters: Martin Reed and his wife, Donna, of San Antonio, TX; Holly Johnson and her husband, Mark, of Minneapolis, MN; and Julie Reed of Charlotte, NC. Sherman was preceded in death by his sister, Mary-Alice Sutherland of Laramie, WY.

 

RONALD LEROY SCOTT, 89, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Thursday, March 26, 2015. He was born January 14, 1926 in Minedosa, Manitoba, Canada, and moved to Vero Beach in 1980, coming from Oxford, MI. Mr. Scott was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He had earned his Bachelor’s degree. Mr. Scott had worked as public relations manager for General Motors, MI and retired from there in 1981. He was a member of Volunteer EMT/Shift Captain for IRC Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, C. Patricia “Pat” Scott; son, Michael R. Scott of Oxford, MI; daughter, Lorilyn F. Tabor of Lapeer, MI; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

KEITH ROGER SHABDUE, passed away on March 28, 2015 unexpectedly at his home. Keith was born on August 6, 1967. He was an accomplished mason, employed by John Vocelle for many years. He took great pride in his work, his family, and all of his friends.

Keith is survived by his mother, Faye; two brothers and one sister, Michelle Gee; four children, Thomas, Amber, Michael and Rachael; and three grandchildren Brayden, Liam, and Elliot.

There will be a gathering 6:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, April 2, 2015 with a memorial service at 7:00 pm at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home.

 

MARY ELSIE WARREN, 89, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. She was born in Mitchell, GA February 5, 1926.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy R. Barker; son-in-law, Roy S. Barker; grandson, Kevin W. Barker; sisters, Wally Irwin and Betty Graves; brothers, William Reese, Charlie Reese, and Billy Reese; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy M. Warren; son, Buford L. Warren; parents, William V. Reese and Celia Mae Lamb; sisters, Inez Lemke Reid, Rhoda Knight Brown, and Lizzie Lee Ward; fiancé, Bob Von Stein.

Elsie moved to Vero Beach in 1962 after her husband retired from a 20 year Army career; she lived in England, France, Germany, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Washington, Georgia, and Florida. She worked for 30 years in the Electronics Dept. of Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach. She was a member of Vero Christian Church, Vero Beach Orchid Society, and Vero Beach Computer Group. In the past, Elsie and Leroy were active in a local Studebaker club and another antique automobile club.

WILLIAM “BILL” WILLIAMSON, 84, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his residence in Vero Beach, FL. Bill was a native of Wyckoff, NJ and lived in Wyckoff his whole life until retiring to Vero Beach in 1988. He was the owner of Firm Insurance Agency. Bill was a member of Christ by the Sea, Vero Beach, FL, the American Legion and the Lions Club in Wyckoff, NJ.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen M. Williamson of Vero Beach, FL, his children, Skip Williamson, and his wife, Janet of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Nancy Pozarycki, and her husband, Eric of Franklin Lakes, NJ, grandchildren, Jana Pozarycki and Chad Pozarycki, Brett and Megan Williamson all of Franklin Lakes, NJ.

GEORGIA JEAN WHITE, 86, died in Vero Beach, Florida on April 1, 2015. Mrs. White was born in Mexico City, Mexico, the daughter of George and Victoria Wilkins. Mrs. White met her husband, Robert Arthur, in California. They were married in 1953 and remained a loving couple for 58 years until Robert’s death in 2011. Mrs. White was the right hand to her husband as he served General Motors Corporation in several countries around the world including Venezuela, France, Germany, England, South Africa and the United States.
Mrs. White is survived by three children, Julie Anne Steckel (Paul), Nancy Cardy (Michael) and John White (Charlene), and three grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew Cardy, and Leslie White. Mrs. White has resided at Oak Harbor in Vero Beach since 2000.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Cross Church, Vero Beach on Thursday, April 9th at 10:00 am. Contributions in Mrs. White’s memory may be made to VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
