Journey to the Mysterious Coral Castle and the Historic Redland Tropical Trail

Once upon a time, there was a man named Ed Leedskalnin from Latvia who spent 28 years of his short life building a unique home for his fiancee with whom he never married.

Coral Castle, originally called Rock Gate Park, was built around 1920 in South Florida and is noted for legends surrounding its creation that claim it was built single handedly by Leedskalnin using reverse magnetism and/or supernatural powers to move and carve numerous stones weighing many tons. Leedskalnin secretly built the structure during the night so no one could see him at work; therefore, his building methods still remain a mystery today. Construction of Coral Castle has been compared to the construction of the Great Pyramid and has been featured on several television shows – i.e., the History Channel, Discovery Channel and Ripley’s Believe or Not. The huge stones are fastened together without mortar and the structure has survived many storms and hurricanes including the Category 5 Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
