The First Friday Gallery Stroll will be held on Friday, May 1st along 14th Avenue in Vero’s Art District. Gallery 14 presents It’s All About Us: Celebrating the Work of Barbara du Pont and Dorothy Napp Schindel. The award winning artists, two of the founding artist-partners of Gallery 14, will showcase photography and mixed media collage. The Artists Guild Gallery presents irts annual Cinco de Mayo show, an invitational exhibit with each artwork being 5”x 5” in size. Main Street Studios’ guest artists are Sebastian glass artists Jim and Karen Lehner creating glass bowls, platters and plates, serving ware, vases, lamps, and whimsical pieces. Art on 18th Gallery, 1365 18th Street, is holding its Grand Opening with a book signing by Janie Gould presenting “Food for Floridays” and paintings by Julie Lounibos (at right).
A Sound, Breath and Chanting Workshop will be held at the Kashi Ashram, 11155 Roseland Road in Sebastian from Friday, May 1st to Sunday, May 3rd with Pandit Mukes Desai. In this program attendees will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of inner sound, listen deeply, awaken their voice and refresh their daily lives with a vibrant and grounded connectivity. Saturday, May 2nd
Sebastian Inlet State Park will hold the Night Sounds concert series on Saturday, May 2nd from 7 to 9 pm. Enjoy some pickin’ and a grinnin’ with the Atlantic Bluegrass Band. This five piece band features guitar, mandolin, stand up bass, fiddle and banjo. The concert is free with regular park entry fees.
A musical parody of “The Mikado” will be presented on Saturday May 2nd, during the Awards Luncheon of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The meeting begins at 11:30, with lunch at noon, followed by the performance at Regency Park, 910 Regency Square in Vero Beach. AAUW member Rosemary Brofos has written a parody that reverses the setting and perspective of the original “Mikado,” placing the action in 19th-century England and viewing it through Japanese eyes. FAIRIES & PIRATES AT MCKEE
McKee Botanical Garden’s Fifth Annual Fairy Festival will take place on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, uniting young fairies and pirates for a fun-filled exploration of one of Vero Beach’s most magical places. Children will delight in themed activities such as the chance to dance around a maypole, follow a map in search of hidden treasure, visit the wishing bush, get a fairy manicure, decorate a pirate picture frame, build a fairy house and create a fairy butterfly necklace. There will be face painting, temporary tattoos, and bean bag and ring toss games. Entertainment includes a performance by the Showbirdz Parrots at 10:30 am followed by the Christi’s Dancers at 11:45 am. A costume parade will take place at 12:45 pm prior to the festival’s conclusion at 1:00 pm. Costumes are encouraged but not required. An assortment of fairy and pirate accessories will be available for purchase at McKee’s Pixie Boutique. Osceola Bistro at the Garden Café will be open at 11:00 am serving snacks and light lunch fare. Community Church, 1901 23rd Street in Vero Beach, presents The Atlantic Children’s Chorale Preparatory and Concert Choirs’ Spring Concert, “Music and the Sea” on Sunday, May 3rd at 4 pm. The concert choir is an auditioned chorus for youth in grades 6-12 A free will offering will be accepted.
IRMC PRESENTS ITS 26TH ANNUAL MAY POPS
Enjoy a pops concert and picnic on the Polo Field at Windsor on Sunday May 3rd. Two nationally renowned vocalists, Melissa Errico and Stephen Buntrock, two Broadway performers each with an array of credits, will take center stage with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, during the Indian River Medical Center Foundation’s 26th annual concert. Gates open for picnics at 3:30 pm, with the concert beginning at 5:30 pm. The BSO, led by principal conductor and music director Maestro Christopher Confessore, will perform favorite movie and show tunes. General admission ticket holders are welcome to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs.. Tickets are $25 per person, or $30 at the gate. General admission tickets can be purchased at the Bottle Shop on A1A and at the hospital’s Pink Corner Gift Shop located on the first floor main lobby. Free ice cream is provided for all guests.
