NEWS RELEASE

Dodgertown LogoSix thousand spectators turned out to enjoy the second annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game recently held in Holman Stadium at Historic Dodgertown. The community event raised more than $26,000 for local non-profit organizations.

All ticket proceeds from the event benefited the United Way of Indian River County. The Game Committee worked for many months devising the promotional and logistical plan with the support of numerous volunteers and sponsors.

“The Jackie Robinson Celebration Game has exceeded all our expectations for a family friendly, truly community-wide event, celebrating an important man and an important step in the integration of major league baseball,” explained United Way CEO, Michael Kint.

“Historic Dodgertown exudes an amazing nostalgia for those of us who remember as well as great entertainment for the young. We are grateful to Historic Dodgertown, their staff, and the Florida State League for including us in such a special event. Moneys raised will allow United Way of Indian River County to provide the building blocks for a solid community with access to a good education, financial stability and quality health care. Funds raised here, stay here, changing the lives of friends and neighbors in need.”

Additionally, three organizations provided manpower for the Food & Beverage concessions stands during the game earning a percentage of sales for the evening. The Exchange Club of Indian River, Vero Beach High School Lacrosse Club and Dodgertown Elementary PTA all worked with great urgency to keep up with service orders throughout the event.
