As part of Back-to-School Shopping season and the extended Tax Free Holiday which runs through August 16th, the Indian River Mall partnering with Verizon Wireless and LensCrafters to host a Back-to-School event on Saturday, August 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Verizon Wireless will be giving away 300 free back packs filled with school supplies. LensCrafters will be doing free eye exams. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Department will be doing fingerprinting, bike safety awareness, and giving away free bike helmets. There will also be a texting and driving simulator to show the risks of texting while driving. In addition there will be crafts, giveaways, a balloon artist and face painter for children. The event will be taking place in the food court and at Verizon Wireless.

The Community Concert Series presents organist Alceé Chriss, in a performance on Sunday, August 16th at 4 pm at Community Church, 1901 23rd Street in Vero Beach. Mr. Chriss has performed in the United States and Europe and is emerging as an outstanding young concert artist of virtuosity and versatility. He has won top prizes at international competitions, receiving First Prize and Audience Prize in the 2014 Miami International Organ Competition and First Prize in the 2013 Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition. In his native Texas, he won first place in the 2013 Regional Competition for Young Organists, sponsored by the Austin AGO Chapter. Alceé is currently the Artist-In-Residence for the summer of 2015 at the Community Church of Vero Beach. A free will offering will be accepted.
On Sunday, August 16th and the third Sunday of every month the St. Augustine of Canterbury’s Prayer and Praise Coffee House at 475 43rd Avenue in Vero Beach is held from 4 – 5:30 pm. The Sunrise Theatre, 117 South Second Street in Fort Pierce, continues its FREE Summer Time Movie Series on Sunday, August 16th with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Tickets are available in person only at the theatre’s box office 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday and two hours prior to each movie. Limit 4 tickets per person.
Registration opens for fall classes
Youth Sailing Foundation of IRC is holding beginning and intermediate sailing lessons at the Moorings Yacht Club . Fall sailing programs start for high school students during the first week of September and for the younger ones, the third week of September. Registration for autumn Arts & Humanities classes at the Vero Beach Museum of Art begins on August 17th. Choose from a wide variety of drawing, painting and clay classes as well as special workshops. Enjoy an evening with friends and complete a painting in one sitting at the Brewery. The instructors will take you step-by-step to create a work of art.
