Sept. 26 is National Estuaries Day at the Environmental Learning Center

ELC Up Close.BPeople of all ages are invited to attend the Environmental Learning Center’s celebration of National Estuaries Week from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2015. There will be a full schedule of educational and fun events recognizing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s designation of the Indian River Lagoon as an “estuary of national significance.” If desired, attendees should bring their own food and drink. Admission and parking for this event are free.

Planned events include:

From 9 am to 1 pm there will be family friendly walks along the nature trails guided by Storywalk featuring “A Day in the Marsh,” and a 20% off sale in The Nature Nook gift shop

9 am to 1 pm events include Canoe Excursions, Pond Dip-netting and Lagoon Seine Netting (must wear closed-toe shoes for both), Encounters in the 145 gallon Touch Tank, and Propagule Potting in the Greenhouse. New and exciting this year: the WaterVentures mobile learning lab will be on campus during these hours to help the ELC to celebrate.

At 10:30 am and again at 12:00 noon Dolphin Fun Facts will be presented in the Waterside Pavilion

Story Time will be held at 10 am and 11:30 am in the Wetland Room featuring “The Wartville Wizard.”

The Environmental Learning Center is located north of Vero Beach off County Road 510 at the

western end of the Wabasso Bridge. Its campus includes exhibit areas, native plant gardens,

picnic facilities, gift shop, and a visitor center. ELC membership benefits, a list of its many field
