COMMENTARY
MARK SCHUMANN

In the theatre that is local politics, perennial candidate, Brian Heady, has long chosen to play the role of court jester, though he sometimes seems to be cast, not as a joker, but as a nut case. Heady, who always claims financial hardship in refusing to pay a filing fee when he runs for public office, is again seeking a seat on the city council.
For what seemed like the one-thousandth time, Heady came before the council and the cameras again this past Tuesday. Among numerous outrageous statements Heady made was an accusation that Mayor Richard Winger has presided over a “reign of terror.”
Heady’s most shameful and self-serving statement, though, was a criticism he leveled against Councilwoman Amelia Graves because of her absence from Tuesday’s meeting.
Though he sometimes seems to be dwelling in an alternate universe, Heady is not completely clueless. Surely he knows Graves recently lost her grandfather. What Heady may not have realized is that last Monday evening Graves was in Tampa with her family, as they said goodbye to the councilwoman’s cousin, a brave young man who lost a four-year-long struggle with cancer.
The next time Heady comes forward for his three minutes of free television time, which will almost surely be next Tuesday evening, he owes Graves a public apology.

It is sad that stories like this one are part of Vero politics. We all know this will be the first of many that will attack the incumbents. Heady will not be alone ,I am sure.
In defense of Brian, I am sure if he had known of Council Woman Grave’s grandfather and cousin he would not have made this insensitive statement. You paint Brian like a misfit in Vero Politics when in fact he says it like it is and has always dedicated himself to truth. He is not a “political “puppet” and much like Donald Trump, he openly exposes the flaws and misdoings of Vero’s city government. Brian has always kept his word, said it like it is and should be supported in his present run for city council; the only flaw I see in him is his beard, he would look much better with it shortened.
That’s what happens when your mouth is much larger than your brain. Heady should take my old grandmother’s advise “Everyone may think you’re a fool, Why open up your mouth and prove it?
I happened to catch that part of the city council meeting. After Mr. Heady made his comment about Ms. Graves, it was explained to him by the vice mayor that Ms. Graves had a family emergency. Thus, IMHO, Mr. Heady had the opportunity to apologize for his comment at that time.
I have no respect for anyone who behaves the way Mr Heady did at the last council meeting. After all his attempts at public offices he should have known better than to jump to conclusions.
We can only wish more Veroites could see this type of person for who he or she really is. This character is so filled with himself, it is truly sad and pathetic to witness. ..not to mention embarassing for the rest of his fellow citizens! Oh well..
