City commission to host conversation on historic preservation Nov. 12

Historic Preservation in the 21st Century: Examples from Boynton Beach, Florida

COVB Seal.BThe City of Vero Beach Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to attend their next regular meeting on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 9:30 a.m., City Hall, Council Chambers for a special presentation on historic preservation by Mr. Warren Adams, historic planner for the City of Boynton Beach, Florida. The event is the second in a series of “Conversations in Historic Preservation”, a Commission driven effort designed to raise awareness and engage citizens and local officials in the preservation of our city’s historic resources.

Mr. Adams has substantial knowledge and experience in the field of conservation of historic buildings and sites. He has held positions as an historic planner in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and earned his M.A., with distinction, in Conservation Studies and Historic Buildings, from the University of York, England. As the historic planner for the City of Boynton Beach, Mr. Adams has added hundreds of buildings to their local historic resources survey. In 2013, the Florida League of Cities awarded Boynton Beach and Mr. Adams the Florida Municipal Achievement Award for their outstanding Heritage Education Program, which features an interactive website highlighting historic sites along the city’s heritage trails.

Mr. Adam’s presentation will provide a unique opportunity to learn how other Florida communities are using creative ways to engage citizens in the preservation of their local history. For more information please call the City Clerk’s office at 772-978-4700.
