An apology to Councilwoman Amelia Graves is in order
COMMENTARY
MARK SCHUMANN

The Press Journal editorial board stooped so low today as to join the barrier island weekly, Vero Beach 32963, in its dismissiveness of Vero Beach City Councilwoman Amelia Graves because she is employed by her mother. “As someone who has limited work experience — she now works for her mother, an attorney — she has been more of a follower on council than a leader,” read the Press Journal’s editorial.
We do not hear this kind of criticism of young men who work with their fathers. It appears editorial page editor, Eve Samples, needs to reign her white male colleagues. However, if Samples wrote today’s editorial, then she has some explaining and apologizing to do. In fact, whoever wrote this editorial owes Graves and apology.

What do expect from these two run of the mill ,self-serving publications. Nothing the current council can or will do will ever satisfy them. Remember that the Press Journal is run by Bob Brunjes and his wife is a high ranking FPL employee. Somehow ,we are asked to believe what the PJ prints is fair and objective,we know better. What we must remember about 32963 is that two years ago they made a effort to denigrate Amelia Graves. That effort failed miserably and Amelia Graves was elected . Once more they are doing their best to try and defeat her. Compare her record to that of Harry Howle ,who this past week VOTED in favor of a boarding house, and then we have Laura Moss, who of Friday , VOTED against lowering our electric bills
Local utility activist, Mark Mucher, posted the following comment on TCPalm.com. I was more than a little surprised he would choose to engage in a discussion about attitudes toward and treatment of women. In my view, Mucher’s comment puts him squarely in the same position as the Press Journal editorial board – criticizing a young woman in a way they never would a young man.
If this is what can be expected from a board members of the “Charlie Wilson” Chamber of Commerce, it tells you something about the organization. Their so-called chamber of commerce seems to be little more than a front for political activity.

In her own words, she works part time for her Mom.
She also lives in her Mom’s rental house.
No apology necessary…
