Riverside Theatre presents a special theatrical event showcasing some of the most beloved music from the films of Hollywood. Riverside Goes To Hollywood takes place on the Stark Stage on Thursday, November 19th and Saturday, November 21st at 8pm. Featuring four highly accomplished Broadway and New York performers, this musical journey through Hollywood’s extensive song list of beloved, award-winning musical compositions will offer tribute to some of the greatest musicals and films of all time. The Sebastian River Art Club presents “Little Gems,” a special showing of miniature original paintings on display in the SRAC Art Center, 1245 Main Street in Sebastian through December. Little Gems, range from $5 to $25, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Ecumenical Council Food Bank. The Opening Reception will be on Thursday, November 19th, from 3 to 5 pm. Enjoy refreshments, meet the artists, and view over 200 Little Gems on the walls and Christmas trees. The Foyer Gallery of Art at the Emerson Center is hosting a Meet the Artist night on Thursday, November 19th from 5 to 7 pm just prior to the Florida Humanities Series lecture. Annette Winkler, exhibiting her work through December 31st, will be on hand. Viewing hours are Monday-Friday from 10 am to 4 pm., Sundays 10 a.m. to noon.

Weekend - bill jamerson-1The Emerson Center’s free Florida Humanities Series continues on Thursday, November 19th, at 7 p.m. with Historian/songwriter Bill Jamerson presenting “Dollar a Day Boys: A Musical Tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps.” Jamerson will tell stories about Florida’s CCC boys, using photos, video and memorabilia. From 1933 to 1942, the CCC public relief program provided work and dollar-a-day income for unemployed, unmarried men from relief families. The Emerson Center is located at 1590 27th Avenue, on the SE corner of 16th Street and 27th Avenue in Vero Beach. For more information, call 772-778-5249.

Pianist and Grammy award winner, George Winston, will be performing at the Emerson Center on Friday, November 20th at 7 pm. Influenced by jazz, melodic and New Orleans R&B piano, as well as Hawaiian slack key guitar and Appalachian and Cajun harmonica, his melodic pieces evoke both a sense of place and season. As entertaining to watch his unique style of playing the piano as to listen to his compositions, this concert is not to be missed. Mr. Winston collects food for donation to a local food pantry, Food Pantry of Indian River County, and asks that all ticket holders to bring along a canned good to help benefit the organization. The performance will feature the Fauré Requiem, and will be performed in collaboration with Rosewood Magnet School. Weekend - Home IsGraham and Rita Stikelether are hosting a “Home is Where the Art Is” fund raising event for Art Mundo on Saturday, November 21st from 4 to 8 pm at their home on South Beach. Their collection includes work by A.E. Backus, Rick Kelly, Robert Butler, Jackie Schindehette, Colleen Becht, Julie Lounibos and Jack Shelton – just to name a few. They have a hope chest made by the famed grandmother and grandfather clock maker Omer Noelke and a darling set of teddy bears – each made by Jeanette Gregory from the fur of a different retired fur coat. They are looking forward to sharing the stories behind how they have built their collection over the years. The Pelican Island Audubon Society will have a field trip to Sebastian Inlet State Park/Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, November 21st with guide David Simpson. The Florida Falun Dafa Association will present a rich and fun afternoon of classical Chinese culture at the Indian River County Main Library on Saturday, November 21st from 2 to 3 pm. Learn about Chinese history, dumpling making, tea, and traditional Chinese instruments while focusing on the arts with Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance touring company.

Riverside Children’s Theatre is hosting its popular annual Festival of Trees on Saturday and Sunday, November 21st and 22nd from 10 am to 5 pm. Families will enjoy a walk through the twinkling forest of decorated trees. Christmas choirs and musicians will share holiday sounds and model trains will travel through a gingerbread village. Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, November 22nd at Riverside Theatre ($16 adults, $10 children) includes a full catered breakfast with seatings at 8:30 am and 10:30 am as well as entry to the festival of Trees. Weekend - unnamed (1)Experience the magic of mangroves and water after dark at the Environmental Learning Center’s annual celebration of Lagoon Night Lights from 4 to 8 pm on Saturday, November 21st. Visitors may paddle a canoe through the mangrove trails dripping with twinkling holiday lights. Children can create and take home a holiday ornament made from recycled materials, and make a pine cone bird feeder. Tour environmental exhibits, aquariums, and Touch Tank, and gift shop. Local music groups will perform holiday music and Mother Nature will be on hand for family photos. Admission is $5 for adults and children 13 and up. Children 12 and under and ELC members are free. The Indian River Symphonic Association opens its 23rd Season on Sunday, November 22nd at the Community Church of Vero Beach at 7:30 pm., by presenting the Brevard Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Christopher Confessore, and featuring Violin Soloist Benjamin Beilman. Performance pieces include: F. Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides, Op. 26, (Fingal’s Cave); J. Sibelius’ Violin Concerto and P. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 – Winter Dreams.
