weekend - image018Register now for the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department’s Summer Gymnastics Session at Leisure Square, 3705 16th Street in Vero Beach. There are openings for boys and girls in this  six-week session that begins Wednesday, June 22nd and runs through the performance at the Aerial Antics Youth Circus August 4, 5 and 6. Registration is ongoing until classes are full.  All summer gymnastics participants ages 3 years old and up will have the opportunity to perform in the 42nd Annual  LOVE themed Aerial Antics Youth Circus. The Aerial Antics Youth Circus will be held at Saint Edwards School on August 4th, 5th and 6th. Show times each evening will be at 7 pm. FRIDAY & SATURDAY, JUNE 17 & 18

Riverside Theatre presents Comedy Zone Summer Nights with comedians John Carfi and Brian Thomas on Friday & Saturday June 17 and 18 with shows at 7:30 and 9:30 pm.  Enjoy summertime games like corn hole, ladder ball, and others played on Riverside’s backyard. Free outdoor concerts are held in the Live In The Loop featuring Collins & Company on Friday and The Beatle Guys on Saturday.  Tickets for comedian showcase: $16 general admission, $18 premium reserved seating at RiversideTheatre.com.

Riverside Childrens Theatre presents Disney’s Aladdin JR. and Disney’s Aladdin KIDS.  both are sure to send audiences soaring on a flying carpet ride filled with romance and adventure. When the street urchin, Aladdin, vies for the attention of the beautiful princess, Jasmine, he uses a genie’s magic power to become a prince. Iago, Jafar, the Genie, and more are here in a musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem and the power of love.  The hour-long version of Disney’s Aladdin JR. starring children aged 12 to 18 takes place on June 17 at 1:30 pm & 7:30 pm and on June 18 @ 1:30 pm & 4 pm.  A shorter version, Disney’s Aladdin KIDS, starring children aged 7 to 12 takes place on June 24 at 1:30 pm & 7:30 pm  and on June 25 at 1:30 pm & 4 pm.  Tickets to either show are: $12 Adults, $6 children.  Visit RiversideTheatre.com.

FRIDAY, JUNE 17

The Treasure Coast Wind Ensemble will present its annual summer concert on Friday, June 17 at 7 pm in the James M. Sammons Auditorium at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. Admission is free though a donation will gladly be accepted. Tickets are not required.  Founded in 2008, the Treasure Coast Wind Ensemble is a wind, brass, and percussion ensemble comprised of approximately sixty professional and semiprofessional musicians from the Treasure Coast, Space Coast, and Palm Beaches.  This year’s concert features Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Beethoven’s Rondino in Eb, Morning Star by David Maslanka, Canzona by Peter Mennin, and the epic Music for Prague 1968 by Karel Husa.

MCKEE WATER LILY CELEBRATION   

weekend - 2016 McKee Waterlily CelebrationOn Saturday, June 18, McKee Botanical Garden will host its 12th Annual Waterlily Celebration from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm. The enchantment of the Garden comes to life as Florida’s largest collection of waterlilies transforms into a brightly colored waterscape.  McKee’s waterlily collection, comprised of nearly 500 plants, is the largest in the state of Florida.  The Annual Waterlily Celebration attracts hundreds of photographers, horticulturalists, artists, and visitors who want to witness this array of color and vibrancy throughout the Garden. The gates open early at 8:30 am to allow for an early morning self-guided stroll through the Garden to catch a glimpse of some of the night blooming varieties before they retreat. Plant experts will be available throughout the day to answer questions and advise visitors on how to characterize hardy species from tropical varieties and will offer repotting demonstrations as well as an opportunity to purchase an array of plants from several vendors.  Visitors will have an opportunity to cast their vote for the “People’s Choice” from the submissions for the Garden’s Annual Waterlily Photo Contest which will be on display in the historic Hall of Giants.

As a special Fathers’ Day treat, there will be free admission* to all fathers or grandfathers with any paid admission in celebration of Fathers Day on Sunday, June 19.

Summer admission rates apply. Adults $10, Seniors $9, Children (ages 3-12) $5, McKee members and children under 3 are free.  *Please note that current members do not qualify as a “paid admission” for this offer.

weekend - WEBl_wind playersThe Bright Lights of Broadway will dazzle Vero Beach concert-goers when the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra salutes the biggest shows from the “Great White Way” at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 19 at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd St, 32960.  Led by conductor Aaron T. Collins, the SCSO will kick off its 2016-17 season with hit after hit from Broadway’s storied past and present, featuring show tunes from South Pacific, Phantom of the Opera, Showboat, Mamma Mia, Fiddler on the Roof, Wicked, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar and more.  $20 advance tickets are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments.
