Let the Games Begin! Maestro Aaron T. Collins leads the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra in an unparalleled concert event inspired by the Olympic Games; a multi-media experience capturing the spirit of competition and the drama of sport. Faster, Higher, Stronger: Music of the Olympics will be performed at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 14 at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street. The powerful program is named for the Olympic motto and features music written for or about the games, much of it in the familiar fanfare style heard at the opening ceremonies. The multi-media concert experience provides a soundtrack for the Olympic phenomenon and will include archival and news footage, original film and photos. NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Youth and adults who can play Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass at a high school level are invited to participate in the Handel Strings Project. Auditions are not required and the program is free. Rehearsals will be held every Sunday from 2 to 4 pm beginning August 21 through December 18 at the Community Baptist Church Sanctuary, 12534 Roseland Road in Sebastian. Five Indian River County Rotary Clubs are holding Octoberfest 2016 at the Riverhouse, 305 Acacia Road in Vero Beach on October 1 to support Polio Plus. The Pelican Island Preservation Society has issued a call to artists for the Bird & Nature Art show to be held at the Environmental Learning Center October 21 through 23. Nature themed artwork in both 2 and 3 dimensions are welcome to apply. The application deadline is October 14 at 5 pm.
