Shores leaders and FPL want Vero Electric’s Shores customers base for a “steal,” and they are trying to ‘buy” three seat on the Vero Beach City Council to get their way.

As usual, it seems the real citizens of the City of Vero Beach (who are only authorized voters in the upcoming election for City Council) are still unaware of the stealth efforts of the FPL and Indian River Shores (Johns Island cadre) to take over our fair city. They are fielding 3 candidates, who are admitting to be on Shore’s Mayor Barefoot’s ‘team’. How can candidates for OUR city government, be on another Town government’s team? As Mark clearly points out, they are being financed by Johns Island millionaires and FPL slush funds.

I hope our City of Vero Beach residents wake up and realize that their city government may be stolen from them by ‘outside interests’ perhaps aiming to dismantle our City and rezone it for Miami style high rise buildings? In the meantime, they will starve our government of funds needed to maintain good city services, further cut staffing levels (already down over 150 slots), overturn restrictions on short term transient rentals by day or week in residential areas, all to drive out our remaining citizens and leave lovely Vero in hands of the real estate investors and speculators. Stand up Vero voters, don’t let ‘outside interests’ buy this election.

  1. The prospect that the City of Vero Beach could be taken over for a mere $100,000 in targeted campaign loot should concern all citizens of Indian River County.

If the voters allow this to succeed, how long before even deeper pockets in southeast Florida figure out they can play this game too?

  2. I do not know if citizens of the ciry know about the takeover by the big money across the bridge.
I read Mark Schumann for whom I am very appreciative. Who will suffer the consequences of a takeover by rich citizens of Indian River Sbores? The citizens of the citizens within the city limits of Vero Beach. Is this not true of the history of the world. “Let them eat cake.”
Eventually, it catches up with them, but it is not in my lifetime. I will be forced to pay the extra taxes when Indian River Shores bows out. What do they care? They are self-righteous and could pay for anything they want. (Self-Centured) They have the luxuries of life and could care less about the rest of us.
We probably are the people who serve them: cooking, lawns, caregiving, etc.
Sounds like history is repeating itself. We Never learn!
