NEWS RELEASE
Camp Haven’s Executive Director, Lalita Janke, was coming in from walking Camp Haven’s unofficial mascot and therapy dog, Rocky, a Goldendoodle, just in time to meet Cynthia D’Amico. She and her sister Barbara McBain were dropping off a second car load of wonderful, washed and ironed men’s clothes that had belonged to Cindy’s husband Ray Foley.
Media Coordinator David Moshier and resident Kevin Johnson had to make several trips carrying all of the clothes that will be very useful for men coming into Camp Haven. Many men arrive with nothing but the cloths on their backs, and many need nice clothes for job interviews, appropriate working clothes and sneakers as well as going to church clothes.
The donor, Ray, had been a firefighter and a Marine who had recently passed away. Before he died, Ray had time to personally request that all of his clothes and other things went to help the men of Camp Haven. “Ray felt that Camp Haven was the best charity in town,” Cindy said. “We feel so blessed to be so highly favored by the community, and today, by Ray and his family.” said Janke.
“This has been a good week for us she continued…we had Stacy Cook donate his used car to us. One of our Board members, Brian Korkus enjoys working on car and fixed up the car and one of the residents is considering purchasing it. If not, it will go on craigslist and help Camp Haven. With 18 men, a hot humid summer and the construction of our 8 units going higher than expected we are in need…. Thank you Cynthia D’Amico, and Thank you Stacy Cook.
Camp Haven is located at 3256 US Hwy 1, Vero Beach, in the old Citrus Motel, near the corner of Aviation Boulevard. To learn more about Camp Haven, how you can volunteer or donate, please call 772.999.3625 or visit CampHaven.net.
