Twelve Youth Sailing Foundation (YSF) middle and high school sailors competed in last weekend’s Treasure Coast Series Regatta#2, sailed on the Lake Worth Lagoon in Palm Beach.
Sponsored by the Palm Beach Sailing Club, the regatta was sailed in north winds that increased in the afternoon. Adding to the challenge, the lagoon is surrounded by high rise buildings that funnel and swirl the wind. Toss in tidal current and a large mooring field with boats that can shield the wind and one can appreciate the challenge faced by our young sailors.
Opti sailor Landon Rapp took home 3rd Place honors in the Silver Class. This was Landon’s first regatta. Fellow Opti sailors Landon Flick and Shae Riley placed 4th and 5th in the Silver and Gold classes, respectively. Skipper Brendan Williams and crew Sean Onorato finished in 1st Place in the 420 class while Nita Holloway and Sydney Ohs teamed up for a 4th Place finish in the 14-boat 420 fleet.
YSF Sailing Director Mary Morgan commented, “The Treasure Coast Series #2 Regatta was a great learning experience for our young sailors. It was a really great fleet and great results. We are proud of their poise and competitiveness when challenged by wind and sea conditions sailing against very experienced sailors.”

In just her 2nd year, Mary Morgan has developed the YSF 420 fleet into one of the most competitive fleets in South Florida. Well done Mary. We have a fleet to be proud of.
