On Friday, May 18, from 5:30 to 8:30pm, Florida’s Coast to Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its annual Hangar Party at the Corporate Air Hangar of Vero Beach Airport. This is a free family event for the community to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, which begins in June.
There will be live Red Cross demonstrations and local exhibitors will be on site to provide resources and information on hurricane preparedness. Attendees will enjoy live music from Collins and Company, a Kids Zone, tours of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research aircraft (weather permitting), a Red Cross vintage uniform fashion show, food vendors, specialty drinks and much more fun for the whole family.
A silent auction will benefit Florida’s Coast to Heartland Chapter of the Red Cross, serving Indian River, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Highlands Counties. Auction items include a sea plane tour for up to five people courtesy of Treasure Coast Seaplanes, fabulous golf packages at area clubs, portrait sitting and a one-night stay at the Eau Resort in Palm Beach courtesy of Bradford Portraits and many, many more..
“Our annual Hangar Party is an opportunity for folks to have fun, eat well, see live Red Cross demonstrations including a mock shelter, enjoy fabulous music and meet exhibitors and partners for resources on shutters, insurance, meal kits and generators,” said Sarah Ruwe, Executive Director of the chapter. “Visitors will learn about safety and preparedness from local emergency management and other partners to further prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.”
The highlight of the evening is a planned visit from NOAA, “Weather permitting we hope to offer tours of the research aircraft,” said Ruwe.
