Beach access points in Indian River County, and the City of Vero Beach, with the exception of Round Island Beach Park, will remain closed until further notice due to current conditions. The County, in concert with the City of Vero Beach, Town of Indian River Shores, and the Town of Orchid are currently procuring a contractor to conduct a countywide effort to remove Red Tide associated marine debris from the beach. They intend to begin marine debris removal by the weekend. Please see the following recommendations provided by the Department of Health and more information regarding Red Tide:
People, especially those with respiratory issues, are encouraged to stay away from the beaches if possible for the next 2-10 days. Persons may experience throat irritation and/or coughing if directly exposed to Red Tide.
Higher wind or tides can spread Red Tide more quickly.
Dead fish are not to be eaten! Be cautious with any fish caught from the southeastern coast of Florida.
Do not consume shellfish of any kind caught in this area until the Red Tide passes.
