In spite of an articulate plea by Brian Heady to name Tony Young as mayor as his grandfather was 100 years ago, Council elected Val Zudans as Mayor by a 4-1 vote. Tony Young had nominated himself after being urged to by people in the audience, so he was the only vote against Zudans. Young was, however, elected unanimously as Vice Mayor.
