If you aren’t a fan of hot sauce you probably don’t care what the rest of Florida thinks, nor are you interested in the answer to this question. But if you ARE a hot sauce fan as I am, you probably have several favorites depending on the ethnicity of the food you are eating, or the level of spice you need at a particular meal.

Spice level tolerance is something you probably acquired at a very young age, especially if you grew up here in Florida. It is not a coincidence that generally the closer a country is to the equator, the spicier their food. Spice is kind of a built-in air conditioning system for your body that is not necessary in Iceland or Sweden. However, spicy food is now popular the world over regardless of where you live. In fact, in this article about America’s hot sauce preferences, the two leading states for hot sauce consumption per resident are New Mexico and North Dakota. I can understand the former, with its large Hispanic population, but North Dakota? Maybe they use it for sun tan lotion.
