Shortly after 10:00 AM on Sunday, January 21st 2024, sailors and parents from various sailing communities from Melbourne to Jensen Beach started streaming into Martin County. It was the 1st Florida East Coast Series Regatta to kick off the new Spring season for 2024! YSF Community Sailing participated and sent a contingent of our young, eager, and hard-working competitive sailors.

The weather had challenging conditions with grey overcast skies and chilly unseasonable January weather for Florida. There was a steady wind from the North at 15 knots that provided consistent opportunities for our sailors to “Sail Fast.”

During the regatta event, there were 15 C420 boats crewed with 30 sailor participants that raced and there were an additional 18 Opti Series boats with 18 sailors as well.

At the end of the day, and after hard work by our sailors, the results were in and our YSF Community Sailing team was placed in the top!

• Alex Delamarter and Will Stricklan placed 3rd
• Edee Steinkamp and Mikey Ladd placed 5th

YSF Opti Sailors

• Mia Lloyd placed 4th overall in Opti Gold class.
• Ocean Free placed 6th overall in Opti Gold class.
• Abhijit Gomez-Acosta placed 2nd overall in Opti Silver class.
