news release
The Vietnam Veterans of Indian River County work tirelessly to house homeless Indian River County veterans and assist veterans who need additional assistance to thrive. Since becoming established ten years ago, the organization has helped house over 200 veterans and have provided over $75,000 in furnishings for veterans who have received Veterans Affairs Supported Housing. But rather than patting themselves on the back for these extraordinary accomplishments, the organization has done even more. Veteran Service Officers have helped assist veterans in recouping over $50 millon in back pay and continuing benefits, and veteran treatment court representative have successfully mentored over 150 local veterans with a 96 percent success rate. It is this kind of unerring dedication and service to those who served our country that made the group the perfect choice for the May Dyer Difference Award in Indian River County and a sponsor of the upcoming Mary Snyder Annual Golf Tournament at Sandridge Golf Club on June 15th. Funds from the tournament will help continue to support more than 600 veterans in Indian River County.
The Dyer Difference Award is all about celebrating the beauty and kindness in our midst. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer staff, the award and the $6,000 in donations made monthly between the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties are all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
