On June 12, 4 – 6pm, the Environmental Learning Center will host the author of “Haunted Indian River County” Larry Lawson for a book talk and signing. The author will have books for sale and share the experiences he had that motivated him to write the book.The author is a retired law enforcement officer with his first supernatural encounter as a 20-year-old working at the Dade County jail. Throughout his career, he witnessed other unexplainable occurrences. After founding the Florida Bureau of Paranormal Investigation in 2011, he assembled a team to explore areas that had reported paranormal activity.

The Indian River County area, Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere, has a deep and fascinating history filled with interesting characters. Larry Lawson’s book highlights chilling stories of the hauntings and paranormal events accompanying this rich past. The book features information from investigations at the Waldo Sexton Homestead; Waldo’s Secret Garden, Marsh Landing Restaurant, Vero Heritage Center Citrus Museum, the Hallstrom House, and other Indian River County landmarks.

Riverside Theatre for Kids presents a magical summer of musicals for the whole family with Shrek the Musical JR., June 14-16, and Shrek the Musical KIDS, June 28-29.  Shrek the Musical JR., a 60-minute version of the full-length Broadway musical, and Shrek the Musical KIDS, a 30-minute pilot production of the original musical.  Shrek the Musical JR. is performed by students aged 11-18.

Shrek the Musical KIDS is performed by students aged 6-11.

McKee Botanical Garden’s 19th Annual Waterlily Celebration

Saturday, June 15, 8:30 am – 2 pm. In addition to the spectacular and award-winning waterlily display the celebration will feature a photo contest, repotting demonstrations, plant vendors, plein air artists, wire art, wood crafts and handmade baskets. The Garden Café will be open from 8:45 am – 3:00 pm.

The A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery is pleased once more to present the popular juried photography competition Through the Eye of the Camera. This year’s exhibition features 81 of the year’s best photographs drawn from professional and amateur photographers. Through the Eye of the Camera will be on view through June 21 at 500 North Indian River Drive in Historic Downtown Fort Pierce. 

Art at The Emerson offers Our Wondrous Planet Exhibit featuring Environmental Art. On view though June 27. Experience art and environmental discovery at the highly anticipated ‘Our Wondrous Planet Exhibition,’ featuring the traveling showcase ‘World of Away’ Eco-Art Experience, alongside masterpieces by local artists. Spring Art Show Galleries at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach
