news release
Acting on the counsel of IRC Emergency Services Director David Johnson, County Administrator John Titkanich has signed a proclamation declaring that the ongoing danger of wildfires has been alleviated with the most recent rainfall events. This means the Burn Ban declared on May 7th has been lifted.
The authority of this action is pursuant to section 101.10(1) of the Code of Indian River County and Resolution 2024-016 of the Board of County Commissioners whereby the County Administrator has the authority to declare a local state of emergency upon making a determination that a natural disaster has occurred or is imminent, requiring immediate and expeditious action. The Burn Ban that went into effect on May 7th was declared effective until further notice.
“Over the past several days, all areas of the County have received significant amounts of rainfall and the threat posed to the health, safety and welfare of our citizens and the property of Indian River County is greatly reduced, therefore I am exercising my authority to lift the Burn Ban effective immediately,” said Titkanich.
