National Wildlife Refuge Week

The Pelican Island Conservation Society is celebrating Pelican Island and National Wildlife Refuge Week (Oct. 13-19, 2024) next month.  Festivities include the annual Indian River Bird and Nature Art Show hosted by the Environmental Learning Center for the month of October.  There will be an artists’ reception Friday, October 11, 4:30 to 6:30 pm which is open to the public.  All artwork on display is for sale and proceeds benefit the ELC and PICS.

Additional activities during the month include Plein Air painting at either ELC or at the Refuge Saturday Sept 28th 8-3, Sunset wine and cheese cruises to Pelican Island on October 5 and 13, Artists Reception and awards Friday Oct 11th 4:30-6:30, the video “Ospreys of Pelican Island,” a documentary by Bob Montanaro, three years in the making following a pair of Ospreys throughout their nesting season at the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.  The final event is an Owl Hoot and Walk with Dee and David Simpson on October 25.

The Annual Pelican Island Conservation Society (PICS) Bird and Nature Art show is scheduled at the Environmental Learning Center in Wabasso from Monday Sept 30th to Wednesday Oct 30th. Proceeds benefit PICS.
