Pelican Island Sunset Wine & Cheese Cruise on October 13, 4:45 – 7pm. Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week in October with the Pelican Island Conservation Society. PICS is hosting an art show and other special events at the Environmental Learning Center. Join the Pelican Island Conservation Society for a memorable cruise with some delectable treats, while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Indian River Lagoon and wildlife. ELC Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Series
October 16, 12 – 1pm ~ Larry Lawson “The Ghost Guy”. Bring your sustainably packaged lunch and join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Lagoon Room at Noon for informative presentations on a variety of topics. Hear pioneer stories told from direct descendants of Vero’s earliest families. Learn about the most memorable ghosts and legends of Indian River County. Be inspired by Marine Biologists and Environmental Advocators working to improve and restore critical ecosystems and protect endangered species and much more! Members are free/$10 for guests.
Ospreys of Pelican Island
October 16, 6:30 – 8pm ~ A video documentary by Bob Montanaro. Three years in the making, the video documents a pair of Ospreys throughout their nesting season at the Refuge. The presentation is free and open to everyone, with a suggested donation of $10/person. Riverside Theatre offers Playtime in the Park on October 19, 11am – 12pm. Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents Red Carpet Film Scores
October 20, 3pm. An evening filled with wonder and nostalgia as your SCSO brings to life timeless melodies that have underscored some of the greatest moments in cinematic history.
Films depend on the lush sounds of an orchestra to turn images on a screen into moments that stay with us forever. This classic program features music by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, John Williams, Alan Menken, James Horner, Howard Shore, Ennio Morricone, and others. Experience Academy Award-winning music from Lord of the Rings, The Wizard of Oz, Schindler’s List, Star Wars, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lion King, The Producers, Lawrence of Arabia and many more as the action plays out on the big screen.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents Back to the Watering Hole
October 21, 10am. The SCSO returns to the plains of Africa, featuring the stimulating original story, Music at the Watering Hole by national best-selling author, Michele Wallace Campanelli. King of Africa, Kojo the Lion, was surprised when a box fell off a tourist bus and dropped a symphony of musical instruments near his watering hole. With a great love for music, Kojo decides to bring all the wild animals of the Savannah together. Could these natural enemies learn to get along to become an orchestra? And just what would they play? The concert will feature music from Madagascar, Lion King, The Adventures of Tin Tin, Zootopia, Jungle Book, The Croods, Jungle Book and more.

Gallery 14 is excited to open their new season with a unique duo show featuring popular artists Maslow and Christopher Sweeney. The exhibit entitled UNPAVED ROAD: Work by Maslow and Christopher Sweeney will run through October 25. The exhibit will feature two visionary artists who embark on a creative journey off the beaten path.
Maslow’s deep southern narrative, expressed through multifaceted painting methods along with Christopher Sweeney’s iconic contemporary pop art, will invite the viewer to venture into uncharted territories where boundaries of emotion, movement, and reality are pushed to new limits. Through their diverse styles and mediums, they explore themes of nature, gratitude, popular culture and the human experience. Gallery 14 is located at 1911 14th Avenue in the Downtown, Historic District of Vero Beach, FL. Open October through May, Tuesday through Friday 10-5pm and Sat 10-4pm.
