Post-hurricane relief efforts in IRC

news release

Post Hurricane Milton activities are underway in full force. Assessment teams are in the field identifying roads that need to close or remain closed. FPL has crews in the field and restoration of power is underway.

School Shelters will be closing in a phased approach. All School Shelters will closed at 2:00 pm except for the special needs shelter located at Treasure Coast Elementary School (8955 85th Street, Sebastian) and the Freshman Learning Center (507 19th Street, Vero Beach) which is serving as a general population shelter.

The special needs shelter must remain open to care for those who are electricity dependent. The Freshman Learning Center will remain open to those citizens that were displaced with homes deemed inhabitable because of the tornadic activity associated with Milton.
Triage effort is underway to determine if those citizens displaced during last evenings tornado have family or friends who can accommodate them, or if the daylight assessment has determined their home is habitable.

The Emergency Information Line will remain open until 5:00pm today.
